NWA: Ep. 1 – A Fresh Start
Airing live On Amazon Prime, 11th of December 2024- NWA Presents: World Class Championship Wrestling @ Fort Worth Convention Center, Dallas, TX
-Pyro goes off and we are welcomed to the inaugural episode of World Class Championship Wrestling by our commentary team, Ian Riccaboni & Nigel McGuinness. Ring announcer Samantha Irvin introduces the collection of legends of the former WCCW promotion in attendance tonight; Kevin Von Erich with his sons Ross & Marshall as well as his niece Lacey, Dory Funk Jr, Jake Roberts, ‘Gorgeous’ Jimmy Garvin & Michael PS Hayes representing the Fabulous Freebirds, Missy Hyatt & Ric Flair. She also introduces the special guest referee for our first match of tonight, Jazz.
Kamille vs Thunder Rosa, Number One Contender match w/Jazz as special guest referee – The match begins with Rosa doing the best she can to get Kamille down and work her over, but Kamille is far too strong to leave her feet. She is able to overpower Rosa every time, but the Mexican native keeps getting back up. As the match progresses, Kamille is dealing a lot of damage but Thunder Rosa is slowly wearing her down. Rosa keeps trying to go for her Fire Thunder Driver or the Tijuana Bomb, but she isn’t able to lift Kamille into position. Eventually, Kamille finishes Rosa with her sit-out dominator for the win after 18 minutes. Kamille offers her hand to Rosa, who reluctantly shakes it, accepting her defeat.
-Backstage we see Bryan Danielson, Jim Cornette, Sting, Bret Hart, Wade Barrett & AJ Lee discussing and finalising the rankings for the singles stars eligible for the NWA World Title Tournament. The results will be announced after the ad break.
Men’s Singles Division Rankings revealed – Charly Caruso & Samantha Irvin are in the ring and direct our attention to the Jumbotron as the official men’s singles rankings are revealed. Walter is revealed as number 1, CM Punk is number 2 and Zack Sabre Jr is 3. They continue down the list with the bottom ranked star at 19th being Dominik Mysterio. Before they can continue, Caruso & Irvin are interrupted by Dominik Mysterio to a chorus of boos. He says it is an absolute disgrace that he is ranked so low, he is the greatest luchador who has ever lived. He looks at the camera and says “Hi dad! I’m glad you’re in Georgia and not here.” Before he can continue, General Manager Teddy Long comes out and tells Dominik off for disrespecting these lovely ladies. He says that just because he is the worst, doesn’t mean he won’t get an opportunity. There are only 16 spots in the tournament, so later tonight the four men ranked from 16-19 will compete for the final spot. Those men are Tyler Breeze (16th), Oba Femi (17th), Brian Pillman Jr (18th) & Dominik Mysterio (19th).
FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) vs Authors of Pain (Akam & Rezar) w/Paul Ellering – This is a battle between two huge brutes and two tag team masters. The AOP have unrelenting strength that is hard to come up against, but FTR are able to level the playing field through their superior tandem ability. Cash & Dax wear down their opponents one at a time with double team moves, but by the time Akam or Rezar tag out, the other man appears to be fresh and recovered. FTR struggle to stay in control, they rely on an exposed turnbuckle to send Akam into, hitting him with the Shatter Machine to win the match after 15 minutes. Ellering is complaining on the outside but it falls on deaf ears.
MJF promo – MJF, ranked 4th by the legends, comes out and says to all the losers here in Texas, coming in 4th would be considered a victory but not to someone like MJF. He feels disgusted that he is outranked by a yellow-teethed Briton built like a toothpick, a washed-up has-been who’s best personality trait is his dog, and a big German meathead. Ian Riccaboni corrects him by saying Walter is actually Austrian. “Shut up Four-Eyes!” MJF says he is better than everyone backstage, and everyone here tonight. He points over to the legends sitting in the front row and says he is especially better than all of these dusty antiques. He imitates the Freebirds walk, saying he would much prefer if the late Terry Gordy was here tonight instead of these two assholes. He calls Missy Hyatt the original skank and asks Jake Roberts how much he needed to drink to take her home and pull his snake out. He says Ric Flair is undeniably one of the best but he hopes he has learned to behave on airplanes. He also says he is better than Eddie Kingston, who is ranked 13th and his opponent in the tournament next week. He thinks Eddie should be ranked 19th because he is built like a salami stick and doesn’t deserve to share the ring with him. He guarantees to win the NWA World Championship, because he is better than you and you know it.
Tyler Breeze vs Oba Femi vs Brian Pillman Jr vs Dominik Mysterio, NWA World Title Qualifier – Oba Femi towers over Breeze, Pillman & Mysterio. The 3 smaller men immediately work together to try and ground him but he is beyond strong enough to throw them off. He begins tossing them all around the ring with big moves, he is an unstoppable force. Breeze, Pillman & Mysterio all take turns wearing Femi down, chopping away at his legs. They send him down to the outside. Breeze superkicks him to stun him, Pillman hits a springboard clothesline from the ring to the outside, knocking him onto the announce table. Mysterio hits him with a frog splash through the announce table. They bury him under the parts of the table and now it is a triple threat. Breeze, Pillman and Mysterio take the fight to each other trying to get the win before Femi gets back up. Pillman is sent out of the ring and Breeze is set up for the 619. Mysterio taunts the crowd, but Oba Femi rises up from behind him. He grabs Dominik and destroys him with his Pop-up kneeling powerbomb. Breeze runs at him and he gets nailed with the same move, but Oba Femi doesn’t see Pillman incoming who dropkicks Femi, he tumbles out of the ring. Pillman covers the incapacitated Breeze and gets the big win after 12 minutes.
-Samantha Irvin asks Pillman how he feels earning his spot in the tournament. Before he answers, Oba Femi gets in his face and stares intensely, then we hear Symphony no.9 play. Walter makes his way down the ramp. He has a stare down with Femi, who smiles and walks away. He then has a stare-down with Pillman who he will face in the World Title Tournament.
-Teddy Long hopes everyone has been enjoying the show thus far. With the rankings in place, he reveals the rest of the first round matches. Next week’s show (18th December) as well as MJF vs Eddie Kingston, we will have 11th ranked Ricky Starks vs 6th ranked Jeff Cobb. On future shows; 3rd ranked Zack Sabre Jr takes on 14th ranked Powerhouse Hobbs, 7th Bron Steiner takes on 10th Miro, 1st ranked Walter vs 16th Brian Pillman Jr, 2nd ranked CM Punk vs 15th Matt Cardona, 8th ranked Chad Gable vs 9th ranked Ilja Dragunov as well as 5th ranked Christian Cage vs 12th ranked LA Knight.
The Vendetta (Taya Valkyrie & Deonna Purrazzo) vs Mercedes Mone & Jordynne Grace – The Boss and the Juggernaut enter separately, Grace’s modest entrance is cut short by Mercedes who gets a lavish spectacle of an entrance full of pyro and effects. McGuinness on commentary says he talked to Grace and asked why she backed Mercedes at the conference, Grace explained that she has history with both Deonna and Valkyrie and knows what they’re capable of. She thought Mercedes would appreciate the help. Grace starts the match against Deonna and she is handling herself well but Mercedes tags herself in, Grace did not like that. Both Mercedes and Jordynne are incredible wrestlers, but they have zero chemistry as a team unlike their opponents. Purrazzo and Valkyrie are able to use their cohesion to take control, as well as your expected underhanded heel tactics. There is an ego clash here too, whenever Grace is in and overperforming Mercedes tags herself in and kills her momentum. They’re good enough to get the win though, Mercedes sets up for the Mone Maker but Grace tags herself in for a little payback, dropping Valkyrie with the Juggernaut Driver to win the match in 15 minutes. Grace and Mone have their arms raised together, Mercedes stares daggers at her. It is clear they’re not on the greatest terms.
Eddie Kingston promo – Eddie Kingston is interviewed backstage by Charly Caruso. He is unhinged about his ranking and what MJF had to say. He doesn’t give a shit what Sting, Bret Hart or anybody thinks about him, he knows how good he is and he is going to prove it next week. He never had the opportunity to be trained as a cookie cutter “sports entertainer.” He is a fighter, a better fighter than anyone in this company, especially a silver-spooned dweeb like Maxwell. He says MJF is nothing but a lying, manipulative, shit-eating bitch and Kingston is going to bully him like he should have been when he was younger.
-The commentary team announced the first NWA Power SuperCard, airing on the 29th of January for Amazon Prime users as well as being available to purchase on TrillerTV. They will be special Supercards in-between PPV events (similar to WCW’s Clash of the Champions). Details on the card will be made clear over the next few weeks. Commentary also recap what is booked for next week’s show; Jeff Cobb vs Ricky Starks, MJF vs Eddie Kingston, The Creed Brothers vs The Grizzled Young Veterans & Jim Cornette’s Drive-Thru show featuring Athena. Now it is time for our main event.
-CM Punk makes his entrance and cuts a short promo. He said he grew up watching some of the best wrestlers ever compete for the prestigious 10 pounds of gold and he would be honoured to be the next name in a line of greats. He doesn’t care who Taz has lined up for him, he’s beaten his past clients Ricky Starks or Powerhouse Hobbs, they are a stepping stone on Punk’s journey back to the top. Taz comes out and introduces his new and only client. “You may have known him as a Breakker, but I am introducing him to you as Bron Steiner.”
CM Punk vs Bron Steiner – Steiner immediately spears Punk. Steiner stalks his weakened foe. This entire match is the veteran struggling to keep up with the younger, more explosive adversary. Punk is able to create some openings to hit some offence, but he never keeps him down for a 2 count, Bron kicks out at 1 every time. Punk goes for the GTS, Bron reverses it and nails Punk with 6 consecutive German suplexes. He nails Punk with another spear and then the pop-up powerslam. Bron locks in the Steiner Recliner, Punk cannot escape. He passes out in the hold and the referee calls the match after only 11 minutes. Bron Steiner with an incredibly dominant win over (arguably) NWA’s biggest star. The closing shot of the show sees a hurt Punk in the corner looking up at a powerful, hungry Bron Steiner.
