Hello and welcome to my second dev diary. I thought I would get this out early because…well why not? The feedback so far has been awesome so thank you very much and I promise there is a whole load more to get excited about. Since the announcement (less than a week ago) I have made even more updates. This is just a sign of my intentions with this game. I plan on updating even after release. Anyhow – lets get to it!
The Dashboard
I have given the dashboard a PPV build section. This section will always display your next PPV event and give you advice on what needs doing before showtime. I felt this was a better use of the dashboard space, rather than showing champions. You can click on the individual parts and it will take you to the relevant screen.
Create Event
So the time has come to start booking some shows. The game starts off with two episodes of Fury (Friday) and a PPV (Armageddon) just to get you started. You can delete these though if you wish to start your own programs right away.
When you create an event you have several options. First, give your event a name, date and start time. Then, decide if the event is a house show, TV, streaming special or a PPV. You can also decide on a location and there are plenty to choose from! From local gyms and town halls to iconic arenas and stadiums.
You can then choose an image for your show. Here, there are a bank of images to choose from, or you can upload your own image easily and choose that.
When a show has been completed it will move to the completed tab on the Events screen. You can go to these and click on a show if you want to look back on the card.
On the active events, you can click on any to start booking. It will also tell you how the ticket sales are doing. The ticket sales do move when you announce matches/segments for the shows.
Booking a Show
So now is your time. You have signed the stars. You have argued with Maya. You have one eye on the board of directors with their threats of firing you. It is now time to book your show.
All of your roster is on the left hand side and you simply drag them over to the booking section in the center. Or even easier, just click on a wrestler and they will go into the booking section. It will also tell you who is booked so you don’t accidently book someone twice (you can do this though if you want to).
On the right hand side, it will give you information such as, does anyone have heat? Are any storylines being booked on the show? This will give you a guide on how the fans may react. Ideally, you should create some storylines and then book them onto the show.
You can also set the amount of time each segment gets, with a rolling time bar at the top. If you go over the allotted time, the TV company will fine you. Why? Well, why not!?
You can add matches, promos, angles or adverts to a show. If you add an advert, it will make you some cash but the fans will not be happy.
Angles include things such as a face to face, a contract signing, an open challenge and many more.
There are currently 100 match types in the game. These range from your singles matches….hang on. Now I know you are not bothered about those. You want to hear about the wacky match types don’t you? You sick freaks. Ok. Here are some of the more interesting match types in the game;
3 Stages of Hell, Intergender, Knockout, Hybrid Battle Royal, Deathmatch, Fans Bring Weapons, Barbed Wire, Roofed Steel Cage, Buried Alive, Cinematic and many more.
Showtime
Well, nearly showtime. First is the pre-show screen. Here, you have a chance to make some late changes to the show. You can give a match/segment more or less time, move the running order or bin a match off completely. This will of course annoy the wrestlers involved. You may also have some pre-show decisions to make as well.
Once the show is on air, you make your way through the card, one segment at a time. You will get a segment rating and some news on what the fans think. You can also again make changes whilst the show is live. This could be inserting a promo before the next match to try and get the crowd onside, or it could be adding time to an upcoming match.
At the end of the show, you will get an in-depth report which will tell you everything you need to know. A final grade, match info, crowd and dirtsheet reaction, any title changes and top merch sales.
Championships/Titles
When you start AYW, there are 8 titles in your company. When you click on a title, you have many options. First of all, you can edit the name of the title and also the image (upload your own).
In the title screen you will also see a full title lineage. Want to know how many times Roman R..sorry Axel Reign has won the AYW United States Title? It is right there.
You can also make a title inactive if you wish.
Storylines
Wrestling is all about the stories and the action. In the storylines screen, you can add wrestlers into a story program and this will show up in the booking screen when you book them in a segment together. This will then add momentum and heat to their story.
As you can see in the picture above, it will log the interactions between the wrestlers on shows. When a storyline comes to an end, it will move into the completed tab.
What’s Next?
I guess I should take this time now to thank you for reading. The response has been really pleasing and I aim to make an amazing game for you all. Next time, I will get under the hood of the Finances screen (there is a lot to unpack there!) as we move closer to the release date of August 18th. The Steam page will be going live very soon (hopefully this weekend).
