WWE Fantasy Universe S1 Ep.10: Rattlesnake in the grass

Paul Heyman comes out and introduces Brock Lesnar as the most dominant WWE champion of all time. He puts over Brock hard and doubts there is a man past or present that can measure up against Lesnar. The glass shatters as Steve Austin interrupts. The crowd chants “what?” in between everything Austin says. In his own way, Austin lays out his plan to face Lesnar at the next show, Survivor Series. However, they are interrupted by Triple H who believes he deserves an opportunity first. He did defeat Austin and Booker T at No Mercy which in his eyes, proves he is the number 1 contender. Before he can continue, HHH is ambushed by Kevin Nash and X-Pac on the entrance way, getting revenge for his distraction during their match at Rebellion.

Road To Survivor Series

Final Battle

The Rock and Team Hollywood come out and The Rock is pissed off. He looks at the state of the team and how far they have fallen. The only belt they have left is the World Heavyweight Championship that Rock gifted Hogan and that is not even an active championship. DDP lost the IC title, Billy Kidman lost the cruiserweight title a while back and they failed to bring the tag titles into the group. Even Kevin Nash and X-Pac failed to win the tag gold in their quest to join Team Hollywood. The Rock says there is no way that Nash and Pac are joining this group now, but Hulk Hogan cuts him off.

Hogan thinks he should consider letting them in to strengthen the group, plus it is not like The Rock isn’t guilty of letting the team down either. Tensions between Hogan and Rock build. Hogan criticises Rock for failing to win back the title from Brock Lesnar and he suggests a solution. They make the World Heavyweight championship a legitimate title and bring some gold back to the group. The Rock proposes another option, how about Hogan give him the world championship back so that The Rock can reactivate the championship. Hogan doesn’t see why he should have to. Kidman tries to calm them both down, but DDP pipes up and questions why either of them should be the world champion. They are global megastars and they don’t need a trophy. DDP says that after Wrestlemania, he is done as a full time wrestler. He wants one more shot at being on top before the curtain closes.

The Rock, DDP and Hogan are in a 3-way stand-off over who should be the world champion, but Vince McMahon interrupts and informs them that he has no desire to acknowledge “that WCW piece of junk” as an official championship here in WWE. He doesn’t mind Hogan carrying it around like a toy, but that is all it will be known as around here. A toy. McMahon informs them that there time on top has come to an end. Brock Lesnar is world champion, DDP is retiring. The wrestling world is changing and it doesn’t need The Rock and Hulk Hogan anymore. However, there are 3 guys who are not quite satisfied and want one final match to gain their redemption. At Survivor Series, Team Hollywood will meet Booker T, Edge and RVD in an elimination 6-man tag to put this feud to bed.

Of course, Team Hollywood launch attacks over the following weeks trying to isolate and injure their opponents, but the good guys have each other’s backs against these sneak attacks. For once, it appears that it is Team Hollywood who are the ones not on the same page, more focused on personal championship goals than fighting in unison.

Past vs Present

Steve Austin calls out Brock Lesnar for a chat but he is met by Paul Heyman instead. He informs Steve that Brock is training for possibly the biggest match in his entire career, Lesnar vs Austin at Survivor Series. Anything he wants to tell Brock he can tell Heyman. Steve Austin plays on Heyman’s insecurities and asks if he can trust Brock. Austin and Heyman go way back, they have known each other for a decade. He knows Paul’s game and he knows he manipulates a situation to remain in control. Austin questions if Heyman can really keep Brock Lesnar in control, the man is a one-man army. Heyman disregards all of this and he claims that he provides Lesnar the tools and the opportunities to reach his potential and that is all he is doing. Austin asks what happens when Lesnar doesn’t need him anymore, which results in a long awkward silence from Paul Heyman.

Brock and Steve do eventually have a face to face at a contract signing which surprisingly doesn’t end in violence. Steve Austin signs first and he cuts an Austin-esque promo mocking Brock and Heyman, putting himself over as the soon to be new world champion. Heyman goes to speak but Brock stops him. Brock simply says “talking is over. Next week, I retire your old ass.”

Reunion

Triple H still has his eyes set on the WWE championship, but it seems that he is going to have to take care of some personal business before he can get back on top. He calls out Kevin Nash and X-Pac to settle their issues like men. Nash & Pac come out and have a 2 on 1 brawl, which they come out on top of. X-Pac wears HHH down with a chair whilst Nash speaks. Nash reiterates how he came back wanting to have fun with his boys again but it is clear that Triple H has changed. He doesn’t want to hang out with them anymore, he has moved on to bigger and better things apparently. If that means they are no longer friends, then I guess this is a parting gift. Nash grabs the chair and swings for Triple H, but the chair is pulled out of his hands by Shawn Michaels! Michaels fights them off before coming face to face with Triple H.

Shawn Michaels appeals to Triple H suggest maybe they have a DX reunion to take out Nash and X-Pac. Triple H isn’t too sure about this, after all that happened with DX the first time around and the Corporation stuff afterwards, Triple H is content fighting for himself, by himself. Shawn says they both stand zero chance fighting them off solo and even if it is just for one night, to trust in HBK again and get the band back together. Triple H says no. Next week, HHH goes and challenges Nash & X-Pac to a handicap match on Smackdown. HHH loses to the numbers advantage and gets beaten down after the match. Out comes Shawn Michaels to try the make the save but he gets beaten down also.

Shawn Michaels faces X-Pac in a singles match on Raw, Kevin Nash tries to run interference but he is stopped by Triple H, allowing Shawn to get the win. Eventually, HHH changes his mind and accepts to team with HBK one more time as D-Generation X.

Scaling the Ladder

Jazz is the new women’s champion and Trish Stratus is set on triggering her rematch clause, but she is confronted by Lita who is returning to in-ring action. Lita doesn’t remember ever getting her title rematch and she wants a shot also. Jazz isn’t fussy, and asks them to fight each other to determine a new challenger. Lita and Trish have a scrap on Smackdown, but the result is inconclusive after a referee knock down and then Lita shoving Trish into Jazz who is sat at ringside. Jazz gets up and demolishes both women and just leaves with no clear challenger determined. Jazz reveals that she is willing to fight both women for the gold at Survivor Series.

They have a little teaser for their showdown on Smackdown, a non-title triple threat which Lita wins by pinning Trish. Jazz is not too happy at the thought of losing her title without being in the decision so she tries to have the match amended. The triple threat is still going ahead, but the pins and submissions are removed, because their match will now be a ladder match.

Keep Your Friends Close

Eddie Guerrero is the first man to congratulate his friend Chris Benoit on winning the Intercontinental championship, and he is also the first one to challenge him to a match for the belt. Benoit goes to accept, but they are cut off by Test & Albert who demand more opportunities around here. Benoit and Guerrero work together to defeat T&A, they also defeat them in singles matches to settle that mini feud. Guerrero asks Benoit again for a shot at the title and Benoit accepts the challenge for Survivor Series.

America vs Canada

The Un-Americans have been a thorn in the side of Kurt Angle, The Undertaker and now Kane over the past few months. So, it seems logical to put them in a traditional 6-man elimination tag match to determine a victor. Angle and Undertaker are former rivals and we see a clash of personalities as Angle tries to lead their team to victory. Kane surprisingly tries to play peacekeeper of the group.

Chris Jericho at this time is now just fully heel, seemingly forgetting the events that led him to this situation, being slowly convinced and converted by his fellow stablemates to be a loyal defender of their home country of Canada. Kurt Angle promises to defend the heart of America from them, but Undertaker and Kane are just here to beat their asses.

Survivor Series

Survivor Series opens with an Elimination 6-man tag, the Un-Americans vs Kurt Angle, The Undertaker & Kane. The Un-Americans rely on quick tags and tandem offence to remain in control and wear down their stronger opponents. They triple team Kane for a while until he gets a tag to Angle who takes control. Kurt is building momentum with suplexes, Undertaker wants the tag but Angle continues to attack the Un-Americans. Taker tags himself in, Kurt isnt happy and he immediately tags himself back into the match. Taker & Angle bicker, Christian dropkicks Taker into Angle, sending Undertaker out of the ring and he rolls up Angle for the pin. Christian just pinned the US champ.

Kurt Angle is eliminated

The Brothers of Destruction regroup to fight the 3 on 2 odds, but Kane is worn out after being on the wrong end of a beat down. Storm pulls Taker off the apron and distracts him whilst Christian and Jericho work together to beat Kane. An Unprettier followed by the Lionsault gets the pin.

Kane is eliminated.

The Un-Americans are beaming with confidence now that Undertaker is left alone, but there is still plenty fight left in him yet. Undertaker fights back against the odds. He catches Lance Storm with a chokeslam and pins him. Seconds later, he catches Christian with the chokeslam and pins him too.

Lance Storm & Christian are eliminated.

Chris Jericho & Undertaker remain and the latter is on fire, beating down Jericho with strikes in the corner. He hits his comeback and all looks well for him but Storm & Christian are trying to distract the referee. Undertaker catches Jericho’s attempt at a low blow, Kurt Angle is back in the ring and he blasts Undertaker with his US title! Why did he do this?! Jericho locks in the Liontamer on an unconscious Undertaker and wins the match.

Undertaker is eliminated.

Un-Americans win in 14:30.

Next up, Chris Benoit defends his IC title against best friend Eddie Guerrero. Although they are friends, they do not go easy on each other. Benoit pummels Guerrero with stiff strikes and suplexes. Guerrero tries every dirty trick in the book. After a series of reversals, Benoit traps Eddie in the Crossface and makes him submit. They shake hands afterwards, but Guerrero seems rather disappointed at the result.

Benoit retains in 2:33.

A 3-way ladder match is up next. Jazz defends her women’s Championship against Trish Stratus & Lita. The two former champions renew their rivalry but their focus on each other distracts their focus on the match. Jazz pushes both women off a ladder, then climbs up herself and retains the gold.

Up next is a star studded tag match. HBK & HHH reform DX to take on Kevin Nash & X-Pac. This is a solid back and forth match, heavily reliant in nostalgia but the match quality is still there. DX play to the crowd and finish Nash off with a superkick & pedigree combination.

D-Generation X wins in 5:58.

We have our second and final elimination 6-man tag of the night. Booker T, Edge & RVD vs Team Hollywood. The Rock and Booker T start the match trading blows, before Booker T is on the receiving end of a triple team. Booker manages a hot tag to Edge who runs wild on Team Hollywood. The Rock already tries a cheap tactics, swinging a chair at Edge but he misses, hitting the top rope and himself in the head. Edge hits the Impaler DDT and scores a massive pinfall over The Rock.

The Rock is eliminated.

Edge gets lost in the shock and celebration of the moment that he doesn’t notice DDP sliding in to hit a sit-out powebomb for the pin.

Edge is eliminated.

We remain as a 2v2 for a while, the passion of Booker T and RVD fighting against the experience of DDP & Hulk Hogan. RVD hits a frog splash on DDP but Hogan breaks the pin. Later, Hogan gets the tag and drops the leg drop to pin RVD.

Rob Van Dam is eliminated.

Booker T fights the odds against Team Hollywood. It is an uphill battle, but it is one he manages to endure. Booker kicks out of a Diamond Cutter and even dodges the Hogan leg drop. Booker hits the Book End on Hogan and pins him.

Hulk Hogan is eliminated.

Booker T & DDP finish the match, Booker counters the Diamond Cutter and hits the scissor kick to win the match. Booker T celebrates with Edge & RVD with a signature Spinarooni

DDP is eliminated.

Booker T, Edge & RVD win in 11:23.

Our main event of course is Brock Lesnar defending the WWE championship against Steve Austin. A clash of styles between a brawlers and a grappler. Austin puts up a great fight, peppering Lesnar with strikes but he struggles to stay on top for long. Lesnar kicks out of 2 Stunners which has Austin at a loss. He tries using his old Million Dollar Dream move, Lesnar powers out and transitions into an F-5 to retain.

Brock Lesnar retains in 4:25.

Another successful defence for Brock Lesnar, he stands tall at the end of Survivor Series as dominant as ever. Paul Heyman applauds his monstrous client, but fear is written across his face as his client is showing more and more signs of autonomy.

The Rock, Big Show, Steve Austin. 3 of WWE’s biggest names have fallen at the hands of Brock Lesnar. Will the next challenger be another iconic name in wrestling? Or perhaps will we see some fresh faces in the main event scene? Tune in next week for episode 11!
