Welcome back to Wrestle Discussions: Revamp — the series where I reimagine how WWE could revitalize wrestlers and factions that have lost their spark.
In this edition, we’re focusing on Austin Theory, a superstar whose stock plummeted from “future world champion” to “barely getting TV time.” But with the right creative direction, I believe he could rise again and become a true mid-card cornerstone in WWE.
The Story Begins – The Royal Rumble Return
The story kicks off in the build-up to the Royal Rumble.
Grayson Waller is no longer part of The New Day. Instead, we see the return of the confident, NXT-style Grayson Waller — a hard-working heel who earns his place in the mid-card, even challenging Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship.
Meanwhile, Austin Theory is nowhere to be seen, with only the occasional mention from Waller’s rivals — setting the stage for a big return.
At the Royal Rumble, Waller enters at number 1. Suddenly, Austin Theory’s music hits at number 2. The crowd erupts. The two stare each other down, mirroring Jey and Jimmy Uso’s famous face-off, before brawling with fierce intensity.
Theory eventually eliminates Waller around entrant number 13 and makes it to the final five before Waller returns the favour, eliminating Theory. Theory’s performance earns him the Iron Man title of the match and reignites his momentum.
Elimination Chamber Feud – Theory vs. Waller
Over the next few weeks, Theory and Waller trade blows, cutting fiery promos that make their match official for Elimination Chamber.
The bout is hard-hitting, athletic, and personal. Theory shows off his versatility — executing multiple dropkicks, technical transitions, and explosive offense. Waller’s signature sneakiness keeps him in the fight, but when he attempts a Rolling Thunder Stunner, Theory counters into a TKO (his original A-Town Down) for the win.
WrestleMania Season – The Miz vs. Austin Theory
Following Elimination Chamber, Theory runs into Dominik Mysterio and Finn Bálor backstage before defeating a local competitor. After the match, The Miz approaches him, offering mentorship. Theory refuses, leading to a heated feud that stretches to WrestleMania.
On the go-home Raw, Theory faces The Miz in a showcase match. Miz goes for the Skull-Crushing Finale, but Theory reverses it into an A-Town Down for the win — proving he doesn’t need a mentor.
Post-WrestleMania – Enter Carmelo Hayes
The night after WrestleMania, Austin Theory declares that he’s “revamping himself” and is ready for championship gold. But before he can continue, Carmelo Hayes interrupts.
The two deliver a short but sharp promo exchange that leads to an impromptu match — a 12-minute classic showcasing both men’s skill. Theory wins clean, but Carmelo snaps, attacking him with a steel chair.
At Backlash, they clash again in a high-intensity rematch. In the end, Carmelo rips off a turnbuckle pad, uses it as a distraction, hits a low blow, and lands Nothing But Net for the win.
Saturday Night’s Main Event – No DQ War
The rivalry continues until Saturday Night’s Main Event, one week before Clash in Australia. Their rubber match is made No Disqualification.
Both men go all out — chairs, tables, and pure chaos. In the end, Theory catches Carmelo on the middle rope and delivers an A-Town Down through a table for the win. The fans in Australia go wild.
King of the Ring – Logan Paul Enters the Picture
The following week, the King of the Ring Tournament begins.
In Round One, Theory faces Logan Paul. Logan attempts to use brass knuckles, but Theory dodges and hits the A-Town Down to advance.
In Round Two, Theory faces Jimmy Uso. With the referee down, Logan Paul interferes, knocking Theory out and costing him the match. Jimmy reluctantly hits the Uso Splash to move on, setting up a heated Theory vs. Logan Paul showdown.
At King of the Ring, the two deliver a Match of the Night contender with multiple highlight spots. In the finish, Theory suplexes Logan off the top rope, hits a devastating A-Town Down, and scores the victory.
SummerSlam – Theory’s Redemption vs. Finn Bálor
Now, with his momentum restored, Austin Theory interrupts Finn Bálor, who’s boasting about his new singles run after leaving The Judgment Day. Theory draws parallels between their journeys — both escaping factions that held them back — and challenges Finn for the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam Night 1.
The match is pure intensity. Both men blend technical wrestling, high-flying spots, and storytelling. Bálor dominates early with a Sling Blade, Shotgun Dropkick, and a 1916, but Theory counters the Coup de Grâce into a superplex.
Theory rallies with dropkicks and slams before hitting an A-Town Down — but Bálor becomes the first superstar in 2026 to kick out of the move. Finn lands a Coup de Grâce but goes for a second, allowing Theory to recover, leap to the top rope, and hit a top-rope A-Town Down for the win.
Austin Theory is your new Intercontinental Champion.
The Revamp Complete
From forgotten talent to Intercontinental Champion, this revamp shows how simple it can be to reignite Austin Theory’s WWE career. He has the in-ring ability, charisma, and presence — all he needs is the creative push to thrive with the WWE Universe behind him.
And that’s how I would revamp Austin Theory’s singles run.
