The eye of scrutiny has been cast over WWE these last few months. Momentum has been mostly high ever since Triple H took over booking duties and culminated with one of the best Wrestlemania’s of all time last year. 2024 continued to be a good year for WWE but complaints have gradually rose again with WWE’s booking. Those complaints have multiplied significantly in 2025. Wrestlemania 41 was lacklustre, The Rock’s politics, questionable booking decisions, callous business decisions. Things have been a bit rough for WWE recently.
However, we have arrived at what should be an easy slam dunk for the company, Money in the Bank. We have 2 multi-person ladder matches which should provide plenty of excitement. The only thing issue that can arise is if the wrong person wins. We’ll dive more into that as the show progresses. This was initially only a 4 match card which feels like a bit of a pisstake. These short cards are digestible, but I would personally feel short changed as a paying fan considering how ridiculous ticket prices are for WWE now. Less wrestling but more money? What bullshit is that? Thankfully, a 5th match was added mere hours before the show began, but it doesn’t negate my point.
Taking place only a few hours after the exhilarating Worlds Collide show, how will Money in the Bank fare? It is time to put a piece of paper inside of a briefcase.
Show opens with a pretty standard WWE hype video package. I like the art style of the promos with the animated silhouettes. Extravagant display of pyro as we look at the sold out Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. Today we are celebrating the anniversary of Michael Cole’s WWE commentary debut. He is joined by Wade Barrett and Pat McAfee tonight.
Women’s MOney in the Bank

I am pretty happy with the selection of women in this match. We have the new blood in Roxanne Perez, Giulia and Stephanie Vaquer. We have the mainstays in Rhea Ripley, Alexa Bliss and Naomi.
As much as I love Alexa and Rhea, they should not be winning this match at all. Like Seth Rollins, Rhea really doesn’t need it and I would personally like to see more of Alexa as a character and in the ring before we put her back in the world title scene. She hasn’t been in that position in 7 years. Naomi I also don’t think should win the match, however she has been doing such great character work recently that I wouldn’t be against it.
Perez, Vaquer and Giulia are of course my personal favourites. The Money in the Bank match should be a launch pad for a deserving talent to ascend up the ranks to the top of the card. Any of them would be a good choice. I think that WWE are going to go with Roxanne Perez though. She had a great showing in the Royal Rumble, it is clear that management are interested in making her a star. I also think that with her new allegiance with the Judgement Day and friction with Liv Morgan, her winning the briefcase just makes sense.
The Match
Alexa Bliss enters holding the Lily doll, has she been doing that recently? I haven’t noticed when watching her in WWE recently. Stephanie Vaquer gets a loud reaction from the crowd, she has gotten over rapidly after appearing on the main roster 2 months ago. Giulia setting her sights on Zelina Vega last night pretty much confirms to be that she will not be winning this match. Of course, the loudest reaction of the 6 women goes to Rhea Ripley. Commentary are pushing the narrative that Rhea is at a disadvantage because she has never been in a ladder match before. By all accounts I don’t think Giulia has been in one either, nor has Vaquer.
Rhea, Alexa and Naomi take out the newer stars and hold the ring. Naomi throws Alexa into Rhea then kicks a ladder into Vaquer. Rhea lifts Alexa for an assisted dropkick into Naomi holding a ladder. Perez & Giulia attack Rhea & Alexa, sending them out of the ring. Vaquer takes her NXT rivals out with a crossbody and knee strikes. Vaquer has a ladder but Naomi kicks her and stunners her with a ladder. Naomi hits Rhea with a heat seeking missile onto a ladder. Alexa drops Naomi and Perez onto a ladder, then hitting front flip on top of them. The crowd chant for tables…in a ladder match….
Giulia takes out Vaquer and goes to set up a ladder before locking eyes with Rhea Ripley. They get into a scrap, dropkicking her. Mami drops Naomi front first onto a ladder. She props a ladder onto the second rope going for a Razor’s Edge, Perez ranas her onto it though. A springboard moonsault by Perez onto Rhea on the ladder looked cool. Perez and Giulia work together to sandwich Rhea inside a ladder, then dropping a ladder on top of it. They bury Rhea under a bunch of ladders, whilst Naomi sets up a ladder to climb. Vaquer stops her. She takes dragon screws Naomi then suplexes Perez.
Giulia stops Vaquer from climbing and locks in an Octopus stretch. Vaquer still climbs anyways! Giulia releases and German suplexes her. Wade Barrett makes a really great point that Vaquer is gassed from 3 matches in 24 hours but for some reason Cole calls him a spin doctor. Giulia is trapped within the ladder, but she powers up to suplex Naomi off the ladder. Alexa drops her with a double stomp. Bliss and Perez make the climb, Vaquer sets up a second ladder and climbs it with Naomi. Alexa joins in trying to take people out, powerbombing Vaquer. Mami is still sleeping under the ladders.
Giulia and Perez drop Bliss belly first across the edge of a ladder. Ouch. Perez finally betrays Giulia but she is thrown out of the ring in front of Rhea who finally wakes up from her snooze. Ripley goes on a rampage. She drops Giulia with a strike combo, kicks Naomi and launches Perez into Naomi. Rhea drops Giulia onto a ladder bridge with a reverse electric chair. Ripley sets up a big ass ladder, Vaquer pulls her off but Rhea headbutts her. Rhea sets up a ladder bridge between the corner and another ladder. Fans are cheering and booing Rhea for this but Vaquer counters hitting Devil’s Kiss on the bridge.
Vaquer scales the ladder and comes close to victory, but Perez stops her. Naomi sets up another ladder bridge on the opposite side of the ladder. The match kinda comes to a halt as Perez, Vaquer, Bliss & Naomi just slowly punch and move around to set up a spot. They finally get into position for stereo Code Red’s by Perez and Bliss onto Vaquer & Naomi. Giulia rearranges furniture before making the climb. Perez meets her there. Bliss pulls Perez down, Rhea grabs Giulia. Alexa & Rhea hit stereo finishers. Bliss and Rhea race to the top, Naomi pushes the ladder and they collide with the ladder bridge. Naomi rushes up the ladder and unhooks the briefcase to win the match.
Analysis
C+ Grade – It is a Money in the Bank match, it is hard for these matches to be bad. This was your usual fun with plenty of spots and ladder offence. I did not like Rhea having a snooze under the ladders for so long. It would have been a cool visual to see her pop out from beneath the carnage after a couple of minutes, but she was out of it for too long for me.
A lot of this match was climbing and pulling people down which makes sense for the psychology of the match. The action was solid but it lacked drama and excitement for me to give this anything higher than this. There was no memorable moments which is what these matches are all about.
I am happy for Naomi to get this moment. She deserves the big win, she is a great wrestler and her character work recently is top tier. Giulia, Perez & Vaquer will have many more opportunities.
Several AAA stars are in the crowd, including everyone’s favourite Mr Iguana and Yasca.
A great hype package for Jey Uso vs Gunther plays, which takes place on WWE Raw.
Dominik Mysterio (c) vs Octagon Jr, Intercontinental Championship

This match was set up earlier at Worlds Collide after Dominik Mysterio interrupted Octagon Jr’s celebrations after victory. Octagon idolises Rey Mysterio, Dom criticises him for it and takes the time to call Rey a deadbeat dad. Octagon defends Rey and attacks Dom. The two men brawl in the ring, requiring referees and AAA wrestlers to separate the two men. Afterwards, Dom challenged him to face him at Money in the Bank.
I think it is a great idea to feature a AAA wrestler on the card. I’m glad it is no longer just 4 matches tonight.
Octagon Jr is in a tough spot. He is a relative nobody to the WWE crowd and he is up against a heel who is incredibly over with the WWE crowd.
The Match
Fast paced action straight away as Octagon takes Dominik down with an arm drag, a rana and then an Acai Moonsault. Dom crotches Octagon on the top rope, then ties Octagon to the bottom rope by his mask to stomp him out. That gives him a lot of cheers from the crowd. Mysterio mocks the AAA stars at ringside whilst he beats down Octagon Jr. Octagon hits an enziguiri followed with a corkscrew arm drag. Springboard corkscrew splash by Octagon get a 2 count.
Dom retakes control and goes for 3 amigos, Octagon escapes, Dom hits a Michinoku driver. Octagon is set up for the 619 but he dodges, hitting a corkscrew springboard for a 2 count. Rolling neckbreaker by Octagon Jr. Liv Morgan provides a distraction and allows Dom to set him up for the 619. Dom hits a frog splash to the back of Octagon Jr for the win.
Analysis
D Grade – Totally fine in-ring wise. Octagon Jr got a nice moment on a massive stage but this was a quick defence for ‘Dirty’ Dom. Not even 5 minutes long.
I’m just not really sure why this was here, other than to give AAA a feature on the card. I thought at least that we would see more confrontations between Dominik Mysterio and the AAA guys. There was never a moment where it looked like Dominik could lose. This did no favours for either man. Octagon Jr was put away in quick fashion, whilst Dominik just beat a nobody in the eyes of the fans.
I don’t blame either of them for this, they did the best with what they could, but this was a weak match for a PLE. This would be disappointing on TV never mind here.
The quickness of this match makes me feel like WWE heard the complaints of the short match card, so they whipped up a quick throwaway match to satisfy the critics.
We have a Fireball whiskey sponsored ladder that Chad Gable has prepared for El Grande Americano. Weird, forced sponsorships.
Lyra Valkyria (c) vs Becky Lynch, Intercontinental Championship

This feud has been cooking since Wrestlemania and this might be the climax. This feud has done wonders for Lyra Valkyria. She was a good wrestler with a mediocre character, but this feud with Becky has really boosted her game. Not only has she wrestled great matches with ‘The Man’ but her personality is finally shining through more. Though far from perfect, Lyra’s promo game has improved a lot and her character is not as corny as it once was. I don’t think the bird thing is going to last though. It is fine for now, but it has a shelf life.
Becky Lynch has been a very entertaining heel, which is not surprising because she is one of the very best wrestlers WWE have ever had. Man or woman. This is a Last Chance match with a stipulation for each woman. If Becky loses, she can never challenge Lyra for the IC title again. However, if Becky wins, then Lyra has to raise her hand and acknowledge her as the better woman.
No matter the result, I think that we are going to see the return of Bayley here tonight. It makes sense. We haven’t seen her since Wrestlemania and we are in Bayley’s home state. A return for Bayley to set up a clash with Becky over Summerslam weekend. That sounds good to me.
The Match
Lyra Valkyria attacks Becky during the introductions and we have a fight on our hands. Lyra has a mild wardrobe malfunction, delaying a dropkick to Becky on the outside which gets countered. Becky hits an exploder suplex for a 1 count. She beats down the champion, Lyra counters the Manhandle Slam into a near fall. Becky counters Night Wing into a near fall. The Man goes back to beating down Lyra. A pair of leg drops get a 2 count. After a couple minutes of beatings, Lyra fires off a dropkick and gets back into the match. The women are trading a lot of pinfall attempts.
Becky catches a kick and flips Lyra over. She spikes her with a DDT for a 2 count, it blatantly looked like a handstand from Lyra thanks to an exposing camera angle. Superplex by Lyra, followed by a Fisherman’s Suplex for a near fall. Lyra misses a moonsault but lands a heel kick. Becky slams Lyra and locks in an armbar, Lyra transitions into a pin and then into a half-Boston crab. Lyra stands on her hair and wrenches the leg back until Lynch reaches the ropes. Dropkick and a crossbody by Lyra as the women spill outside of the ring.
Lyra drapes her over the barricade and boots her in the face. Diving leg drop from Lyra from the announce table. Back in the ring, Valkyria is caught in mid-air with a powerbomb by Becky! Near fall by Lynch. After the double down, loud chants for R-Truth. The wrestle on the top rope, Super Manhandle Slam from Becky! 1-2-kick out by Lyra! The action spills outside, Becky lands a Manhandle Slam on the outside. She struggles to get Becky up and Lynch has to break the count. She rolls back outside and Lyra hits Night Wing. They tease a double count out, I genuinely thought it was going to be but they break the count at the last second. Great spot.
Lyra and Becky throw hands in the ring. They trade pins and counters. Becky manages to counter a pin and scores a flash pinfall, supposedly with a handful of tights. We see it from another camera angle and not gonna lie, I don’t even think she held the tights. She just cuddled Lyra’s ass. If she did hold the tights, the referee definitely should have picked up on it.
Now Becky has won, she demands Lyra fulfill her end of the bargain. Lyra reluctantly raises Becky’s hand, but the champion is not satisfied. She demands her hand be raised facing all of the crowd. Lyra does it, hanging her head down but Becky is still not satisfied. Becky demands Lyra put the title around her waist, which Lyra does but then drops her with a German Suplex and a Night Wing. Lyra walks out as Becky lies in pain.
Analysis
A- Grade – Another awesome match between these 2 with a finish that came out of nowhere. I liked how competitive it was, both women felt like equals and traded A LOT of pinfall attempts. I expected a victory for Becky Lynch here, though the loss doesn’t hurt Lyra at all. She put on a great display and because of the finish, it felt like a fluke for Becky Lynch.
The post-match angle was solid, they did a good job of making Becky unlikable and get a lot more boos than cheers. Lyra was getting humiliated, but refused to remain embarrassed and lashed out. This feud ain’t over pal.
I’m quite surprised to see no Bayley.
After watching Pat McAfee play with a WWE Money in the Bank playset like a moron, we get a ‘By the Numbers’ but for MITB statistics. This is a cool little video package. I hope they don’t repeat this every year like they do with the Royal Rumble, repeating the same shit over and over.
Men’s Money in the Bank

It was a complete missed opportunity to have Rey Fenix in this match, but I am less mad since he wrestled at WWE Worlds Collide. I don’t mind the rest of the participants at all.
Andrade winning is probably the least likely, but he is one of Triple H’s guys plus the popularity of Latino wrestlers currently might make him the dark horse. Penta has had a strong first year in WWE so far. Whilst I think a championship is inevitable, I am unsure if he is the correct choice to win tonight. However, I do think he will have the spot of the night, because of course he will.
I am a huge Chad Gable fan so I am always down for him winning the briefcase. He has been over and featured prominently, but I doubt he will walk out as the winner. Personally, the best choice for winner is either LA Knight or Solo Sikoa. I think LA Knight is long overdue a world championship and there is no better way for him to finally ascend to the main event scene than winning the briefcase tonight.
Seth Rollins winning is, like Sami Zayn says, the worst option. Whilst him becoming world champion is a good thing, he shouldn’t be using the briefcase. He doesn’t need it. It’s Seth Freakin’ Rollins. I think we will see an appearance from Sami Zayn and CM Punk in this match to prevent The Visionary from succeeding.
The Match
Do they really need to make Alicia Taylor announce that there are no pinfalls, submission, disqualifications or count outs in this type of match? Also, do they need to make her read out the rules twice in one night? Paul Heyman accompanies Seth Rollins to the ring, no sign of Bronson Reed or Bron Breakker…yet. The Intuit Dome serenade Rollins with song before Penta arrives. I don’t think I have seen a luchador connect with the fans and WWE like Penta has since Rey Mysterio.
Rollins is circled by the 3 men who were attacked by Rollins & Co last night on Smackdown. El Grande Americano quietly leaves the ring. Solo mocks Rollins, turning around and seeing he is in trouble too. Solo is attacked by the 3 men. Americano enters the ring and he is quickly thrown out of the ring. Andrade and Rollins are in the ring, Andrade dives out on top of the everyone except Penta. He dives from the top rope onto everyone else. Americano takes out Penta. Barrett claims Americano and Gable have different nipples, he is a real journalist. Cole says he has never studied a man’s nipples.
Penta chops Americano across the nipples, he goes for a handstand dropkick but Rollins hits him with a ladder. Americano drops Rollins on top of a ladder with flapjack manoeuvre. More chants for tables from the marks. Solo throws Americano into a ladder. Knight mounts Solo with punches but Sikoa throws him off. Knight drops Solo with an inverted DDT on the ladder, followed by his flashy elbow. YEAH! Knight makes the climb, he meets Penta at the top. Rollins joins them on top of a taller ladder, Americano joins him. Solo sets up a third ladder, I think Andrade went for a springboard but slipped on the ropes a little.
All 6 men are punching. The ladders are all pushed down, leaving Solo and Seth standing in the ring. They clear the ring of ladders and go head to head. Chants for OTC ring out in the dome. They trade blows, superkick by Solo. Rollins dodges the Spike and throws a kick of his own. Seth props the ladder against the second turnbuckle, Rollins dodges a running Sikoa and drops him with a stomp. The Visionary makes the climb up a ladder, Americano catches him with an ankle lock on top of the ladder. Andrade climbs over Rollins, Penta is there too. Sunset flip powerbomb by Andrade from the top of the ladder! Suplex by Penta through a ladder by Penta!
Penta and Andrade both climb the ladder. Andrade tells Penta to go for it, so he can cheap shot him. Andrade pulls Penta down but receives a kick. Penta climbs a gain, Andrade throws a ladder into him. Andrade makes a ladder bridge between a ladder and the corner. Andrade stops Penta climbing, he goes for a suplex but it is blocked. Penta Mexican Destroyer on the ladder! Andrade is out, Penta makes the climb but Solo drops him. Sikoa mocks his taunt and his walk, LA Knight drags him out of the ring. Knight sets up a ladder bridge from the ring apron to the barricade.
Knight throws Solo into the steel steps. LA Knight catches Penta for a powerbomb, but it is countered into a Code Red. Americano German Suplexes Penta off the ladder and he has more for everyone else. Gracias! He whips Rollins into stood up ladder. The fans chant something like “He’s Chad Gable, No He’s Not!” Americano pulls out the sponsored Fireball Ladder. He puts it around is neck and does an airplane spin, knocking out anyone who approaches. Americano and Penta climb the Fireball ladder. He headbutts Americano and Penta is gonna win but there is Seth Rollins. Penta kicks down Seth, whilst we see Americano put the metal plate into his mask.
Rollins & Penta fight on the ladder, and Rollins falls off. Penta makes the climb, he stands there for way too long fumbling the briefcase as the spot is set up. Knight slingshots Americano but he climbs up a ladder, then he tips a ladder so he can swing over from the corner to the ladder Penta is on. Americano headbutts Penta with his loaded mask. LA Knight runs up and hits a super back suplex from the top! Great sequence, the crowd is hot.
Everyone takes turns being very close to winning but being stopped at the last second. The drama and tensions is at a high! We see Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman calling the troops. Bron Breakker runs down and spears the SOUL out of Americano. Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker destroy the competition. Spears and Tsunami’s galore. Heyman directs them towards Solo Sikoa but here comes Jacob Fatu and JC Mateo to meet Reed & Breakker. Big boy fight time!! These 4 bulls of muscle fight. Breakker spears Mateo through the barricade. Fatu hits a pop-up Samoan drop to Reed! Fatu throws Solo into the ring and sets up the ladder for his ally.
Solo makes the slow climb and grabs the briefcase, but Fatu grabs Solo’s foot! Loud chants for Fatu as Jacob says “Solo, I hate you!” Fatu drops Solo with a superkick and then a moonsault. Fatu puts Solo through the ladder bridge with a Uranage and leaves Money in the Bank. Seth Rollins is back up and he is setting up a ladder in the ring. Everyone is down as he makes the climb, but LA Knight drops him a clothesline. Rollins throws Knight head first into the ladder and then gives him the stomp.
Rollins climbs the ladder and wins.
Analysis
B+ Grade – Damn, what a deflating end to an incredible match. This was one of the best Money in the Bank matches we have seen for a long time. The action started with enjoyable wrestling and they gradually ramped up the offence and drama. All the guys did a great job of having the crowd on the edge of their seats. They cheered and jeered for every man who made the climb.
Penta got a great showing in this match and he had the spot of the night as I expected with the Mexican Destroyer. Andrade & Americano performed just as well with some great moments. LA Knight was barely featured in this match, he barely did anything. I thought that was done because he was bound to be the winner but that was not the case.
Seth Rollins bringing in the troops made sense and I loved the face off between his boys and Solo’s. That is a match that needs to happen. I also loved the face turn here for Fatu, finally sticking it to Solo Sikoa who has not been a great ally.
After all of that, Seth Rollins basically just climbs up and wins. Why was LA Knight able to get up to stop him, but no one else could? Where the hell was CM Punk and Sami Zayn? If it was so important that Rollins lose, why weren’t they here to stop it? I thought this was a weak finish. Not only did the match just sorta end, but Seth shouldn’t have won in my eyes. He does not need it. I understand that this is part of the story of him taking over to lead the WWE in his image, but how it played out didn’t really make sense to me.
Seth just challenged Jey and got a title shot a while ago. He only lost because of CM Punk interference. Why shouldn’t he be able to go for a rematch down the line, then use his big boys to cheat to win? This match could have elevated LA Knight, Penta, Solo Sikoa, Chad Gable, hell even Andrade I guess, to the next level. Instead, they chose to cement Seth Rollins as a top guy.
Wouldn’t surprise me if we see a cash-in tonight. Maybe part of John Cena ruining wrestling includes Seth Rollins.
WWE confirm that Wrestlemania 42 will be held in Las Vegas for the second year in a row.
Boo.
WWE CHampion John Cena & Logan Paul vs Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso & Cody Rhodes

Main event time. We have both world champions, the former WWE champion and one of the most recognisable stars of the internet. This is an undeniably stacked main event.
Cody Rhodes returned at Saturday Night’s Main Event to help his friend Jey Uso. John Cena came out to help Logan Paul against Jey, seeing this as a perfect way to accomplish his goal to ruin wrestling. Cody Rhodes evened the odds and helped Jey retain. The most interesting development in this was seeing Logan and Cena shove each other and argue over engaging with Cody and Jey physically on Smackdown. Maybe being the bad guy is becoming too much for Super Cena.
World Heavyweight champion Jey Uso has a big title defence against Gunther upcoming on Raw, we will see how this match influences that match.
The Match
Nothing noteworthy or too special from these entrances. Cody and Jey got a huge pop of course. WWE champion John Cena got a huge pop as well, not even mixed, just pure cheers and “John Cena sucks” chants. Cody & Jey receives some boos during introductions, Logan is all boos whilst Cena is the most over in this match.
Rhodes and Cena start the match, but Cena tags out to Logan immediately. Actually, Cena decides to tag in and face Cody. They lock up, Cody drops him with a shoulder tackle so Cena sprints away and tags out. Logan does a forward roll and Cena applauds. As they lock up we get loud chants for R-Truth. Cody drops Logan with a front stalling suplex. Jey tags in and gets dropped by a punch from Logan. Jey fights back with some huge punches of his own, the crowd yeeting along with him. Logan catches Jey with a blockbuster. Cena tags in and beats up Jey Uso. Champion vs champion here.
John Cena slowly beats up Jey but the WWE Heavyweight champion whips him into the turnbuckle. Logan prevents the hot tag. Jey is slowly beaten down by Cena. John hits 2 big shoulder tackles. Jey fights back but Cena lands the spinning back suplex. 5 knuckle shuffle by John Cena. Jey counters the AA into the rear naked choke, but Cena drives him into the corner. Logan prevents the tag again, hitting a weak looking boot. Split-legged splash gets a 2 count. Rest hold by Logan Paul. Cena tags himself in. This is brutally slow and boring thus far.
The beat down goes on for a LONG time with very little substance to talk about. Suplex by Cena. Another rest hold. Cena tries to punch Cody, but Rhodes punches him and Jey lands a kick. Logan tags himself in. Now Cena tags himself in and they argue, oh shit things are finally happening. Cena and Logan shove each other and argue, Cody finally gets a tag and runs wild on his rivals. Powerslam to Logan. Cody Cutter to Cena. Back drop to the outside and a suicide dive to Logan. Dropkick to Cena. John counters the Cross Rhodes, Logan punches Jey, Cena hits the AA on Rhodes. Jey arrives late and just misses his cue so Cody has to kick out.
Logan Paul botches the buckshot lariat, Jey superkicks him. Cody hits Cross Rhodes on Cena, Logan goes for a crossbody but Cody dodges and it hits Cena. Jey spears Logan. We have a quadruple down. Cody and Cena trade blows. Now Logan and Jey trade blows. Cody and Logan trade blows. Bionic Elbow by Cody is countered, Logan hits the Paulverisier. He summons his drone to film him frog splash Cody, but he is caught mid move and we see a Superplex from a POV. Jey Uso lands an impressive Uso Splash from quite a distance.
AA by Cena to Jey and then to Cody. He pins Cena for a near fall, I am sure commentary just said that Jey and Logan were the legal men? (I checked in post, Cena and Cody were legal). Cena clears both announce tables. Cody escapes an AA and Jey spears Cena, leaping from one table to the other. Jey is still on the desk, Logan hits an AWESOME acai moonsault from the apron. Referee checks on Logan and Jey, Cody & Cena are in the ring. Cena has the WWE title and he drops Cody with it. Shades of Wrestlemania 41. Someone runs in and attacks Cena. IT’S BLOODY R-TRUTH! He drops Cena with the WWE championship and runs away. The crowd goes nuts. Cody hits the Cross Rhodes and pins John Cena to win.
Michael Cole carefully words that WWE and R-Truth could not come to an agreement on his new contract and he left the company. That is not the truth is it? Cody and Jey celebrate as the show ends.
Analysis
C- Grade – A hard match to grade. The first half of the match was brutal. The Jey Uso beat down lasted for over 10 minutes and it was painfully dull. Logan and Cena delivered a slow, methodical assault that was exhausting to watch. The first interesting moment was the Logan/John fallout. Cody Rhodes got the hot tag and the match picked up. We got some exciting sequences and near falls.
The two biggest moments of the night took place in the final few minutes. First, Logan’s picture perfect moonsault through the announce table. It was beautiful. Then, the grand return of R-Truth. Whether this was a long-term work or WWE realising they fucked up, I guess we’ll wait to find out. Truth’s return was a huge moment and the loudest pop of the weekend.
Now does the return of R-Truth, the Logan/Cena drama and the moonsault make up for the first part of the match? Not at all, but it does save it from being as bad as it looked. This was still not a very great main event. Very dull plus some very notable mistakes by the self-proclaimed Maverick.
The man who really needed to benefit from this was Jey Uso and he might be the man who suffered the most. After Cody Rhodes’ hot start, Jey gets in and almost immediately he is on the back foot. He is dominated and he doesn’t make the hot tag because he is a valiant baby face. Jey gets the tag because mommy Logan and daddy John are arguing. He felt like an accessory in this match. Cody, Cena and Logan were the focus.
Final Thoughts
C- Overall Grade – I can’t even say I am disappointed because I didn’t really have any expectations for this. Lyra and Becky stole the show with a fantastic performance of wrestling and character work. I would have rated the Men’s MITB the same grade if it wasn’t for the deflating result.
However, the rest of the card left a lot to be desired. The women’s MITB was incredibly generic with no stand out moments. The IC championship match was a waste of time and made the AAA look weak which isn’t a great way to treat a partner. Then we have the main event, which was saved from being a wash by a 53 year old man with an imaginary friend. I’m as glad as anyone else that R-Truth is rehired, but him being the saviour of the main event scene is not exactly a great look.
Money in the Bank will contend with Wrestlemania for weakest show of the year by WWE. Maybe it is time that WWE consider the future of the MITB if this is what they can come up with.
Check out my review of WWE/AAA Worlds Collide from earlier in the day.
