How I would book the WCW/ECW Invasion (PART 1)

Yes, I know this idea has been done to death, but I really want to get my version out there and see what you all think. And remember, this is only Part 1!

WrestleMania X7: Austin Beats Rock Clean… But What Happens Next Changes Everything

The main event of WrestleMania X7 plays out just as it did in real life—Steve Austin vs. The Rock in an all-time classic. However, this time there’s no interference from Vince McMahon. Instead, Austin defeats Rock clean with a Stone Cold Stunner. After the match, the two megastars share a handshake of respect in the ring… until a familiar sound shakes the arena:

N… W… O.

Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, and Kevin Nash appear on the entrance ramp. Hogan points dramatically toward Austin in the ring. Austin responds in true Texas Rattlesnake fashion—with a middle finger—as the show fades to black.

Monday Night RAW: WCW Crashes the Party

The following night on RAW, during a midcard tag match between Too Cool and Kaientai, a group of WCW wrestlers—including Buff Bagwell, Disco Inferno, Hugh Morrus, and Kanyon—suddenly surround the ring.

Then the arena explodes with a deafening siren:

“HOLLA IF YA HEAR ME!”

Scott Steiner storms the ring, destroying everyone in sight. He locks both members of Kaientai in the Steiner Recliner before grabbing the mic and delivering a rage-fueled promo. He mocks WWF for calling itself the place “where the big boys play” while Big Poppa Pump wasn’t even on the roster.

What follows is chaos. WWF wrestlers rush the ring—first the APA and the Holly Cousins, then Rikishi, Val Venis, and Test—but all get laid out. Finally, the ring posts erupt in flames.

Kane is here.

He storms down and clears the ramp of Disco and Kanyon. In the ring, Steiner stands tall, unfazed. The two titans clash brutally until both factions storm the ring to pull them apart. This feud is far from over.

Shane McMahon Welcomes Back the nWo

Later that night, Shane McMahon introduces Hogan, Hall, and Nash to the WWF Universe. Hogan grabs the mic and demands respect, claiming he helped build the house and should be welcomed back “with open arms, brother!”

That doesn’t sit well with Austin, The Rock, and Triple H, who come out for a tense confrontation. After some verbal sparring, a brawl breaks out. WCW midcarders rush in to assist the nWo, but WWF stars like Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, and Big Show even the odds.

As Undertaker prepares to hit the Last Ride on Scott Hall, a mysterious video interrupts. A POV-style stalker video reveals someone watching Sarah (Undertaker’s wife), Debra (Austin’s wife), and Stephanie McMahon. The final shot? Vince McMahon tied up at an unknown location. Hogan smashes Undertaker with a chair while the invaders retreat, laughing.

SmackDown: Jeff Jarrett Returns, Jericho Loses the IC Title

Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho cuts a passionate promo on SmackDown, vowing not to let WCW take over. He issues an open challenge.

“Up here, slapnuts!”

Jeff Jarrett is in the crowd and accepts—if the title is on the line. During the match, Jericho locks in the Walls, but Justin Credible interferes. Lance Storm hands Jarrett a guitar, and SMASH! Jarrett scores the win and becomes a seven-time Intercontinental Champion.

Post-match, Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero brawl with Jarrett and the Impact Players. Big Show chases Jarrett, but Mike Awesome debuts and takes down the giant.

Backstage, Jericho, Benoit, Guerrero, and Show form an anti-WCW alliance, setting up two huge matches for Backlash.

The Invasion Expands

Kurt Angle launches a political-style campaign, insisting that he, not Austin, should lead WWF against the invaders—and reminds everyone he’s still the No. 1 contender. Austin agrees to a title match at Backlash, but his attention is clearly divided.

Meanwhile, Kane and Steiner’s feud escalates. Triple H and The Rock try (and fail) to work together. Hogan constantly antagonizes Austin. Undertaker investigates Vince’s abduction and the identity of the stalker.

In the midcard:

  • The Hardy Boyz are challenged by Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman
  • Norman Smiley and Crowbar provide hardcore comedy chaos
  • X-Pac is torn between alliances
  • Paul Heyman teases a surprise, as the Dudley Boyz prepare to challenge Edge & Christian for the tag titles

Backlash Match Card

  • The Hardy Boyz vs. The Filthy Animals (Mysterio & Kidman)
  • Hardcore Title Triple Threat: Crash Holly vs. Crowbar vs. Norman Smiley
  • Big Show vs. Mike Awesome
  • Jericho, Benoit & Guerrero vs. Jarrett & The Impact Players
  • Kane vs. Scott Steiner
  • Edge & Christian vs. The Dudley Boyz – Tag Team Championship
  • Triple H & The Rock vs. The Outsiders
  • Steve Austin vs. Kurt Angle – WWF Championship

Backlash Results and Shocking Twists

  • Mysterio & Kidman beat the Hardys after Jeff misses the Swanton Bomb.
  • Rhyno returns during the hardcore match, Gores everyone, and steals the title.
  • Booker T and DDP are shown watching in the crowd.
  • Mike Awesome defeats Big Show in a brutal slugfest.
  • Jericho, Benoit & Guerrero win after Benoit makes Credible tap to the Crossface.
  • Steiner ambushes Kane pre-match, suplexing him off the stage and locking in the Recliner. Kane passes out. Match never officially starts.
  • Dudley Boyz win the tag titles with help from Tazz. Then Heyman leads an ECW invasion—Dreamer, Sandman, Raven, Sabu, Tajiri, and more proclaim “ECW IS IN THE HOUSE!
  • Kane awakens backstage, rampages through the arena yelling “WHERE IS STEINER?!”

Main Event: The WWF Title Match Ends in Betrayal

In a wild tag match, Triple H betrays The Rock, joining The Kliq and hitting Rock with a sledgehammer to give Hall and Nash the win. Stephanie and Shane reveal the stalker was a setup and that they’ve staged a hostile takeover of WWF.

The stalker appears, removes his ski mask, and reveals himself as Eric Bischoff.

Booker T and DDP seem ready to join the Kliq but instead attack them, siding with WWF. The show closes with Taker, DDP, Booker, and Rock delivering finishers to a captured X-Pac.

Austin vs. Angle: The Invasion Gets Even Bigger

The main event sees Austin vs. Angle. Just when Austin looks set to win, Hulk Hogan distracts him. Angle hits the Angle Slam—near fall. Austin fires back with a Stunner, but Hogan pulls the ref out.

Austin finally grabs Hogan—but then the lights go out.

When they return, Goldberg is in the ring. He spears Austin, lays him out, and throws Angle on top for the three-count.

Kurt Angle wins the WWF Championship.

Bischoff returns to the stage, raising Goldberg’s hand as the show fades to black.

Stay tuned for Part 2… Sting, RVD, and more are still to come.
