Royal Rumble (January 27th) (Tropicana Field: St. Petersburg, Florida)

Randy Orton vs Roman Reigns © w/ Paul Heyman (25:49)

Randy Orton wins the triple threat match at SmackDown: New Year’s Revolution. The story is exactly what has been playing out on tv already, Randy wants to kill the Bloodline for almost ending his career. This match is slow-paced, it’s your typical Roman match. Jimmy Uso tries to interfere and eats the RKO instead, but that allows Solo Sikoa to interfere and cost Randy the match, distracting him long enough for Roman to lock in the Guillotine and choke Randy out.

Elimination Chamber (February 24th) (Optus Stadium: Perth, Australia)

The Rock vs Roman Reigns © w/ Paul Heyman (28:10)

The Rock finally comes to take his place at the Head of the Table. He shows up on SmackDown and says he is here on behalf of his father, Roman’s father, and all those who came before them to slap Roman around and take his title. Roman says he’s going to send The Rock back to Hollywood, off the island of relevancy, and out of his family. The match is mainly spectacle, think Hogan vs Rock or Cena vs Rock. This allows Rock to take it easy, not get injured, and put on a great match for his retirement. Roman actually shows the cracks in the foundation, allowing himself to get caught up several times by The Rock. Roman is actually on the backfoot for a lot of the match until, of course, some interference by Paul Heyman allows him to take advantage. Finally, despite Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes chasing away Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa, Roman hits three spears on The Rock to get the pin and cement his place as the true Tribal Chief.

WrestleMania XL Night Two (April 7th) (Lincoln Financial Field: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)

Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns © w/ Paul Heyman (35:18)

Finish. The. Story. Cody finally does it, he climbs the mountain once again but this time he slays the dragon and ends the record breaking reign of Roman. This match is an instant classic, building off the main event and the past year of storytelling. Roman blames Cody for destroying his family, saying that his brother is off doing other things and his wife is back home posting thirst traps on Twitter so Cody has to take someone else’s family. Cody says Roman is a tyrant, a dictator, and just like all other tyrants in history he will be toppled. Earlier in the night, Roman officially banishes Jimmy from the family after he loses to Jey on Night One. The match starts slow, then builds and builds. They go back and forth, Cody being able to have an answer for nearly everything Roman does. Solo Sikoa comes out to help Roman but Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, and Randy Orton show up to help Cody and drag him backstage. This distraction allows Cody to hit three successive Cross Rhodes to Roman to get the pin and finish his story.

Note: On the SmackDown after WrestleMania, the Universal Championship is retired and the WWE Championship lineage continues alone.

Backlash (May 4th) (LDLC Arena: Lyon, France)

Solo Sikoa w/ Paul Heyman vs Cody Rhodes © (19:06)

After WrestleMania, Roman disappears and the family is in disarray. Paul Heyman says he knows how to solve this, he crowns Solo the new Tribal Chief and unleashes him on Cody. In the weeks leading up to this show, Solo constantly ambushes Cody and just demolishes him. Cody comes into this match with broken ribs and an injured neck. From the beginning of the match, Solo just savages Cody and tosses him around the ring. At one point he hits Cody with the Samoan Spike, but Paul Heyman tells him not to pin Cody and force a referee stoppage. This allows Cody to fight back, he hits a Disaster Kick followed by a Cross Rhodes to get the win. However, it looks like Cody didn’t beat Solo but he survived him.

Night of Champions (June 8th, 2024) (Mrsool Park: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia)

Bobby Lashley vs AJ Styles vs Cody Rhodes © (22:41)

Cody gets caught in the middle of gang warfare between The OC and The Hurt Profits. Bobby and AJ both want a shot at the title so Nick Aldis makes a groundbreaking triple threat match. At the start of the match, Bobby and AJ team up to take Cody out. They throw him out of the ring and focus on each other. Bobby uses his power to try to take out AJ but AJ is too quick and is able to stick and move and hit Bobby with big moves. AJ is about to hit Lashley with the Styles Clash but Cody slides back into the ring and hits him with Cross Rhodes but Lashley breaks up the pin, then the match is between Cody and Bobby. Bobby overpowers Cody, then locks him in the Hurt Lock but just before he passes out AJ hits both men at once with the Phenomenal Forearm but they both kick out of the pin. The finish comes when Bobby hits AJ with a Spear in midair, then stands up into a Cody Cutter but Lashley rolls out of the ring so Cody hits a Cross Rhodes on AJ to get the win.

Money in the Bank (July 6th) (Allstate Arena: Chicago, Illinois)

Randy Orton vs Cody Rhodes © (20:50)

After Night of Champions, Randy Orton turns heel and attacks Cody Rhodes. He says he made Cody the man he is and yet Cody hasn’t once thanked him for his career, he hasn’t even thanked him for chasing Solo Sikoa away at WrestleMania. Cody says he does owe a lot to Randy and he would’ve given Randy the match had he just asked but now he has to show Randy just who the hell he is now. This match is a slower almost 80s WCW style match. Randy gets a lot of heat in the beginning, attacking Cody before the bell and keeping him down through the first four or five minutes of the match before Cody fires up and fights back. The two brawl around the ringside area until Randy puts Cody through the Spanish commentary table. Randy throws him back into the ring, then gets inside and is hit with the RKO from Cody but Randy kicks out. The finish comes when Randy goes for the RKO but Cody counters it into a baseball slide pin and the surprise win. As soon as the bell rings, Randy attacks Cody. He hits Cody with the RKO, then gets a chair and blasts him with it over and over before hitting a second RKO onto the chair, then he rolls Cody outside and hits him with the RKO through the second commentary table. Cody is helped to the back by the medical team but he is attacked at the top of the ramp again by Randy and hit with a fourth RKO. Randy says this is far from over.

SummerSlam (August 3rd) (Gillette Stadium: Boston, Massachusetts)

Hell in a Cell:

Randy Orton vs Cody Rhodes © (27:14)

After the brutal attack at Money in the Bank, Cody throws out the challenge to Randy for this match. This match is brutal from the moment the bell rings. The two men just go crazy on each other with all manner of weapons. Cody would probably get busted open at some point in this match. They bring out tables, kendo sticks, and chairs. At one point, Randy hits Cody with the Cross Rhodes. Cody brings out a cowbell and just bashes Randy with it over and over until Randy hits him with a low blow followed by the RKO for a very near fall. Randy puts Cody through a table with a superplex at another point. The sick point of the match comes when Randy takes a pair of pliers from a toolbox under the ring, puts Cody’s finger in it, and essentially tortures Cody in the center of the ring. The finish comes when Cody hits Randy with a Cross Rhodes followed by a second one on the steel steps. The show goes off the air with Cody celebrating on top of the cell.

Bash in Berlin (August 31st) (Mercedes-Benz Arena: Berlin, Germany)

Gunther vs Cody Rhodes © (26:20)

Gunther finally sets his sights on Cody Rhodes and the WWE Championship. This match is essentially the Passion of the Cody. Gunther spends twenty-six minutes just punishing Cody. Gunther will probably get cheered for this match with it being in Germany but this is essentially a longer version of Brock squashing Cena from SummerSlam 2014. Cody gets more hope spots than Cena did in that match, but they’re quickly squashed. Gunther is in his final form in this match, hitting thunderous chops and massive moves on Cody. The finish comes when Gunther hits two powerbombs followed by a big splash to pin Cody and become the first German-born WWE Champion.

No Mercy (October 5th) (T-Mobile Arena: Las Vegas, Nevada)

Seth Rollins vs Gunther © (24:18)

This match is more even than Cody vs Gunther. Seth comes into this match fired up and ready to slay the monster that is Gunther. Seth is able to counter almost everything Gunther does, until a certain point when he gets rocked with a massive clothesline and the match slows to Gunther’s favored pace. Gunther starts to impose his will on Seth, who fights valiantly but it’s no use as the strength of Gunther is too much and he puts Seth away with the Symphony of Destruction.

Crown Jewel (November 2nd) (Jeddah Super Dome: Jeddah, Saudi Arabia)

Cody Rhodes vs Gunther © (29:40)

The rematch. Cody leaves television after his loss in Berlin but returns after No Mercy claiming to be a new man ready to take back his title. The match does go more in Cody’s favor this time, he has an answer for almost everything Gunther throws at him and he never gives up. Gunther blasts him with chop after chop, making Cody’s chest look as bad as it did when he tore his pec but he just won’t give up. Cody manages to get the upper hand after running Gunther into one of the LED posts on the outside of the ring. The match nearly ends when Cody hits two Cross Rhodes onto Gunther but Gunther manages to get a foot on the rope. Cody goes for another Cross Rhodes but Gunther fights out of it and locks Cody in a sleeper, forcing him to pass out and giving Gunther the win.

Survivor Series (November 30th, 2024) (Target Center: Minneapolis, Minnesota)

Chad Gable vs Gunther © (22:16)

Chad Gable gets to compete for the WWE Championship in front of his home crowd. This match is essentially an extension of the two really good matches they had last year. Gunther doing his usual thing and Chad Gable getting hope spots. Gable puts up the most fight of anyone so far in Gunther’s reign, putting him on the back foot for a lot of it. Gable almost gets the win after a Chaos Theory but Ludwig Kaiser distracts the referee and Giovanni Vinci pulls Gable’s leg. This distraction allows Gunther to hit a lariat followed by a powerbomb for the win.

Going into 2025, Gunther defends the title at Royal Rumble against Kevin Owens and against Rey Mysterio at Elimination Chamber before losing it to Royal Rumble winner Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 41.
