The Pro-Wrestling Rant (Mar 6)

Nick Whitworth

With the world so caught up in this Donald Trump chaos that is going on, we all need some time to kick back and enjoy life.

For me, I turn off the ol’ noggin’ by slapping on some wrestling which then usually gets me all wound up and needing to rant, so here I am. Let’s see what is on the docket for this edition shall we?

Vince McMahon back in the game?

Any time I see the name of Vince McMahon on any news feed I feel like I am going to puke. While the wrestling business wouldn’t be where it is today without Vince, everything else about him makes me wish he would just disappear.

Maybe get caught in a tornado and end up in Oz, anywhere but where the world could potentially see him.

Word spread like wildfire when people caught wind of him reaching out to people who have experience shooting wrestling. Other rumors state it is not wrestling related but rather launch an entertainment company.

Potatoes-patatoes really.

Any type of business involving Vince McMahon should be shot down immediately and just the sheer thought of who would actually work for him makes this whole situation even scarier.

Mr. McMahon only respects his workers who bring him the most money. As you can tell how he treated his employees in WWE, he has no respect for anyone but himself. Vince views himself as above the law and a God like Almighty.

These rich billionaires get richer by treating their employees like pheasants and run them to the ground paying them as little as possible with as little benefits as possible, all the while thinking they should put the company over everything, including their health.

If you were in the middle of a push and got hurt, you were penalized and had the push revoked. He would purposely make his talent do some obscure stuff to embarrass themselves all for Vince and his running mates’ joy.

Money or no money, Vince shouldn’t be able to get himself anywhere near the business and any talent who view working for him as an opportunity, needs to reevaluate their career goals.

I’d like to think that nobody would support a Vinny Mac business and make it damn near impossible to start another company up and let him know he doesn’t belong anywhere near being a boss ever again.

Wrestlemania plans

If you’re any type of wrestling fan, then you know how exciting the Road to Wrestlemania is. Typically, the excitement kicks in and the focus on the biggest event of the year starts at the annual Royal Rumble.

Typically, both winners (Men’s & Women’s Rumble matches) are the ones who ignite the flame and put all eyes on Mania.

Once the winners of each Rumble choose their challenger then the rest of the card starts taking place. While some feuds might have half-started throughout the year, the stories pretty much go into high gear.

Lately it seems as if WWE isn’t too sure on the direction to go in regard to finalizing the cards.

Wrestlemania is not only the company’s biggest event of the year, but it became a major weekend with everything from independent wrestling shows to meet & greets. It became the biggest weekend in all of wrestling.

Once Mania is in the rearview and WWE has wrapped up all of its loose ends, they should then start brainstorming next year’s event. I say around Summerslam PLE is when it is time to start drafting up matches so they can start building right away.

They don’t need to go all in right out of the gate but give it time to simmer before the feuds reach a boiling point. Save that for the new year.

Injuries can happen, we all see how quick fans can get behind a wrestler or even turn on them, but the company should have an idea on the direction they want to go.

With Wrestlemania being the biggest event of the year, every match on the card should have had the right amount of time to reel in the audience. Giving them a month or so of build-up isn’t always enough and I think WWE lost sight of that and just go off the hype of the event instead.

As of right now (besides Uso/GUNTHER and Stratton/Flair) the card is blank. Yes, we have the Elimination Chamber to hammer down a few more and whoever John Cena chooses, the card screeches lack of decision-making.

It looked like WWE was setting up Rollins/Reigns/Punk Triple Threat but hasn’t pulled the trigger yet. Not sure if it is because they plan on giving CM Punk his moment by having him headline Wrestlemania but if they are then why have Rollins attack him at the Rumble and just focus on Roman.

I know many of you are looking at the date and thinking I am foolish because there is still loads of time to build up. You are right to a degree but for investment quality and “hype” you need time to build. The fans need time to understand the story and need time to digest it and become invested in it.

Look at it like this. Your favourite musician/band just announced their new tour and are making a stop in your town and it is 4 months away what do you typically do?

You gather the crew, make plans, buy the tickets and start prepping for it by blasting their music more often, watching YouTube videos, basically hyping yourself up for the show so that by the time it rolls around you are 100 % invested in what you’re about to see.

Same goes for movies as we get weeks and weeks of trailers on television. Imagine a new Captain America releasing its first trailer for the coming new movie and it comes out tomorrow. No hype, nothing, just going off the name and how the name sells. Catch my drift?

Now with going all in like I mentioned months in advance there is a higher risk of injuries, but it is a physical job, and injuries can happen at any moment but to help mitigate that while trying to hit a homerun with the stories, just go old school, vignettes.

You don’t need to have the same stars on every show doing the same WWE formula of promo, interference, blah blah. A simple vignette goes a long way. Do we always need a 15-minute back and forth in-ring promo, or can we have less of those and more 1 person vignettes really driving home the story?

At the end of the day, I just think WWE needs to start driving home the final lineup to the 2-day event a lot sooner then they do. Finalize it early then give me reason to want to watch it.

Draw me in, have me sitting on the edge of my seat and have me so hooked and invested in what I am seeing, and you have yourself a true winner. Don’t believe me? Go back and watch the results of stories that had the crowd over the top invested like Daniel Bryan winning the World Championship, Kofi-Mania and Drew McIntrye winning the Royal Rumble.

Now you see why the entire show needs to be like that.

The Hardy Boyz final WWE run?

As we are all aware, Matt & Jeff Hardy are back home. Well, kind of. Currently the TNA Tag Team Champions, The Hardy’s have been heavily featured on NXT as part of the beautiful NXT-TNA relationship.

March 11th, 2025, The Boyz will defend their titles against current NXT Tag Team Champs Fraxiom. This is literally a dream match and almost a passing of the torch so to speak.

Fraxiom is one of the best teams on the planet and whose style was molded from The Hardy Boyz themselves, so to have these 2 teams going at it is a massive money-making matchup.

I do think there is more to Matt & Jeff and WWE. Both seem to be in such a great position, both physically and mentally, that I can see this going from the NXT-TNA thing to a final WWE run which will end with their retirement and a WWE Hall of Fame induction.

Triple H is keeping an eye on the 2 making sure past issues don’t arise before fully committing to their final run but I think it has slowly begun.

We all know Jeff has a history of not just addiction but being unpredictable but it seems he found the right way to tackle those demons and re-establish himself, so his name won’t always be associated with his past.

You can see that he is putting in the work to distance himself from that path and he is focused on cementing his legacy inside that ring.

I think The Hardyz 100% deserve not only a final WWE run but also a WWE Hall of Fame induction not just because of their in-ring accolades but also since many of today’s teams/wrestlers started due to the excitement they saw watching both Matt & Jeff in that ring.

Arguably the most influential Tag Team of this generation.

Natalya set to wrestle for other promotions

Not one but two promotions announced current WWE talent Natalya will be action. Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport was the first to announce her appearance. For the past few years Bloodsport has ran events during Wrestlemania weekend and featured WWE talent like Shayna Baszler, Charlie Dempsey and the Creed Brothers just to name a few.

Someone on the level of Nattie will bring in more WWE diehard fans to the show.

I think we will finally see a side of Natalya WWE fans have never seen before. As we all know, WWE slaps some restraints on its wrestlers so not too often do we really see their talent shine.

Use Cody Rhodes for instance. I saw him in one of his first indie shows fresh off his WWE release and mid match I leant over to one of my buddies and I say, “where was this Cody in WWE”. The cuffs were off, and he was able to be himself and it showed and that is why through his own hard work he became one of the best in the business.

Bloodsport is a great promotion that will give free reign to her knowing how trustworthy she is inside that ring and with her under used talent, she will have one of the best matches of the year. So, mark that one down.

NWA also announced that Natalya will be competing at the 2025 Crockett Cup. NWA has an incredibly rich history in the wrestling business and this tournament has been a way to honor its founder and history.

This is a tag team tournament so I am not sure where Nattie will fall into but wherever she lands will be a show stealer and I guarantee that.

I truly love how WWE is allowing talent to appear in other promotions. It helps not only their own talent but also the overall business. Adding WWE stars to an outside promotion will generate a boat load of buzz for the event which equals money.

The price to bring in these talents is always worth it in the end as it has put said promotion in the eyes and ears of wrestling fanatics. It is a win-win situ for all.

If you have no current creative plans, why not send them out on the indie scene (I am not calling NWA indie by the way). It keeps your talent happy as they get to work, meet fans, wrestle unknown talent who just need that big break and it helps the overall scene by showing the world that a company as big as WWE still truly values the independent scene and all of the blood, sweat and tears that go into it for low pay in hopes of making a name for themselves.

It is WWE giving these smaller promotions and talent a major rub and we all know how big of a deal it is when that happens. I just wish it happened more.

Along with LFG and WWE Evolve, the company is really focusing on and recognizing just how important indie wrestling is to the business and it is great to see indie wrestlers/promotions getting the proper respect that always goes unnoticed.

That is all she wrote for moi. Don’t worry though, I will be back and it will be a lot sooner then you think because I always have stuff to rant about. Until then, much love!
