AEW All Out Thoughts

All Your Wrestling By All Your Wrestling 8 Sep 2024 5 min read

ALL OUT has come and gone, and so here are my thoughts on the show.

MJF VS DANIEL GARCIA

So according to the rumourmill, Garcia was supposed to win this clean, however as his contract is still not signed, he didn’t go over.

I was quite impressed with the match, although not blown away, with both putting on a good display.

I loved the end with Garcia countering MJF and leaving him laying. I do think even though MJF came out with the win, the match itself did leave Garcia looking strong.

It’ll be interesting to see if Garcia signs his contract offer soon. This match shows that he can hang with the top tier talent in AEW.

MJF is rumoured to be taking a bit of time off now so I guess this is why they had Garcia destroy him at the end.

Verdict: A very good opener to the show. Garcia was made to look strong and the beatdown afterwards gives MJF the reason to be off a while and a good feud ready for when he returns (if Garcia re-signs.

Young Bucks vs BCC

This match pretty much lost me when they kept doing the silly leg stuff over and over. I don’t mind the odd spot like this but this just went on too many times. Decent match, could have been on Dynamite.

Verdict: Match felt like it could have been on Dynamite and was thrown onto this card just to get the tag titles defended after recent criticism.

Will Ospreay vs Pac

What. A. Banger.

I mean, we knew this would happen, and they delivered. Two of the best in the world (in my opinion) and despite the small build time, they did a good job building anticipation and they were exceptional in the ring.

Ospreay retained as expected, but for a moment they did make me think Pac might take it.

Verdict: Excellent match, brilliant final moments and the crowd were obviously into this, with chants of ‘fight forever.’ Looks like Ospreay is moving on to a feud with Ricochet whilst Pac is focusing on the BCC feud stuff.

I am intrigued to see what happens with Wheeler Yuta and Claudio and Pac. Wheeler didn’t know about this attack but he is a trios champion with Claudio and Pac. I was going to say Pac and Yuta to feud but they are champions. They have me intrigued.

Statlander vs Willow

Great fun here. All of the weapons were out and a few great spots. Loved the intensity, the spot through the table and barricade, the light smash through Statlander’s skull, the dive off the stage through the table, the chains and pins. I feel like they were trying to make this the best women’s street fight in history and I’m interested to see hear what everyone thought about this.

Verdict: A bloody great street fight with lots of cool spots. As soon as the title was removed from this match, I thought Stat would win. Both looked great after this and hopefully both will move on to other feuds now.

Okada vs Orange vs Briscoe vs Takeshita

A pretty cool match here and the correct winner. I’m loving Mark Briscoe more and more every time I see him.

Verdict: Okada looked very strong at the end of the match here, which I like heading into Continental Classic season. There were a couple of moments where Okada and Takeshita faced off and the crowd got excited (maybe they were testing the waters here) so I’m expecting this feud moving forward.

Mercedes Mone vs Shida

Well, I had high hopes for this as the ladies have had a bit of stick lately. However, I was left a little disappointed by this match. I wanted it to feel more like the title could change hands but I never got that feeling and some of the moves seemed a little off.

Verdict: I don’t want to be too harsh on this. Another match goes by where I’m left wanting more from them. Match seemed sloppy in places and I have no idea where each lady goes next. Hmmmm.

Bryan Danielson vs Jack Perry

Got to say, I really enjoyed this match. We know Danielson can make any match look amazing, but also, Perry can go in the ring and he performed really well here.

His ring psychology was great, playing the heel card and exiting the ring early on, making sure he controlled the pace.

Perry sold Danielson’s running knee better than anyone has done so before and he looked great here despite losing.

Verdict: Danielson defends. Perry looked a million bucks, job done.

The Aftermath

So Killswitch appears and wipes out Danielson,  Cage appears to cash in his title shot but is stopped by Mox and the BCC. Then the shock of Claudio smashing Danielson and Moxley throwing the bag over Danielson’s head was insane.

I thought Mox was done with the BCC, but it looks as though he has recruited Claudio and Pac to join him and Shafir. Not sure where this is going, which is probably good I suppose as it keeps me invested.

Not sure how I feel about the bag over the head. Quite a brutal image we are left with.

Swerve vs Hangman

This is just about what we expected really. They put on a banger, doing everything they possibly could to kill each other. Stapler in the head – check. Powerbomb on a breeze block – check. Table spot – check. Barbed wire in face – check.

Got to say, I was not expecting the syringe in the mouth. Another image that is left with us that is totally insane.

Loved the finish though. I know chair shots to the head are controversial, but it was an insane match and the velocity of the shot, it made sense with the ref stopping it.

The final shot of Hangman was cool as well. His decent into madness is complete.

Verdict: Fantastic main event. Swerve is rumoured to be taking a bit of time off now and Hangman looked incredibly strong coming out of this. A great job by all involved.

Where next for these two? Hangman to be booked like a monster for the next couple of months, retire Danielson, then Swerve to return to settle the score at Revolution in a good old fashioned singles match.
