Cody Has Conquered So – What’s Next?

After a quite incredible match to headline WrestleMania 41, Cody has finally finished his story. Or has he? Maybe the story is just beginning. The story of Cody’s time. Cody’s reign as the Undisputed, Universal Champion.

Cody captures the title at WrestleMania 40

When Cody joined WWE, he had one goal – to become a world heavyweight champion. Son of the late, great Dusty and brother to wrestling legend Dustin, Cody wrestled in WWE between 2006 and 2016, with relative success before heading out to the the likes of TNA, NJPW and ROH. He couldn’t even wrestle with his surname once he left WWE, going by just the name – Cody (this changed in 2020 as WWE gave up the name so Cody could have it back).

We all know how driven Cody must be, just from his decision here. He could have sat back and collected a nice paycheck. But instead, off he went to try and forge his path to the top. In 2019, he helped to create AEW and served as Executive Vice President in the company, and having many great matches along the way.

After failing to negotiate a new contract though, Cody left the company, and 3 months later made an incredible return to WWE at WrestleMania 38, to defeat Seth Rollins. Cody was a different beast this time around though and would be a main event talent, and was presented like a major star.

He went on to win the Royal Rumble and headline WrestleMania 39 against Roman Reigns, where just about everybody thought he would finish his story and win the title. BUT!!! Roman won and continued his reign. The story had to continue. Cody would not give up and would do things the hard way.

So on he went to the Royal Rumble and once again, he would win. Another main event with Roman would follow and this time, the story would be complete with Cody sealing the historic win and capturing the gold.

So the question is, what’s next for Cody Rhodes?

Option 1: A long title reign

Cody could keep hold of the title for quite some time. I have a feeling he will keep it and walk into WrestleMania 41 as the champion. I can see him having many feuds this year and he will certainly defend the title more than Roman did. We will probably see the title being defended on every big PPV, making a huge change to the past few years. This is exactly what the fans have wanted to see, the biggest titles defended on PPVs.

High chance he walks into WrestleMania 41 as champion.

Option 2: A short title reign

Could WWE pull a massive swerve and have Cody drop the belt sometime in the next 3 months? This would be a massive shock after the story we have just had. I can’t see this happening, and I believe this would annoy a lot of people.

Very slim chance he has a short title reign.

Option 3: A feud with Rollins

I do believe this will happen at some point down the line, as Rollins needs to get back that loss to Cody at WrestleMania 38. I don’t think it will happen in the next 6 months though, as the two have just finished the whole Bloodline story and a bond has been formed. Especially after Seth’s sacrifice, coming out to the Shield music and tempting Roman to hit him instead of Cody. I do see this one down the line, maybe even going into WrestleMania 41?

Certain to happen, predicting not in the next 6 months.

Option 4: A feud with Cena

Cena returned in the main event of WrestleMania 41 to help Cody by taking out Solo, before taking a Rock Bottom for his trouble. Cena has recently said that he would love one more run in 2025 to finish his career. Could it be against Cody for the title? Cena is tied with Flair on 16 world titles and this would certainly be interesting, however it wouldn’t be good business to have Cody lose to a part-timer – would it? It would make history though if Cena won a 17th world title. Hmmmm. Interesting one, but I’m not sold on this.

Small chance match could happen, but Cena shouldn’t win.

Option 5: A feud with Rock

This simply has to happen. Rock returned this year and has been on a fantastic heel turn. He has tormented Cody for the past few months and Cody hasn’t really gotten the better of Rock. Rock has whipped Cody and made him bleed. Now he will surely want some form of revenge for Cody beating Reigns?

Cody vs Rock could happen towards Summer Slam time, and I believe Cody would have his revenge and get the victory over Rock. Rock doesn’t need the title and another huge win for Cody would really solidify him as the top star in the company. If Roman does stick around, it certainly won’t hurt to have more than one superstar built.

Also, I predict that the Rock vs Reigns match may happen at WrestleMania 41, with the winner being crowned the Tribal Chief and Head of the Table. They don’t need the title for that.

Huge chance we could see Rock vs Cody at Summer Slam

Where does CM Punk fit into all of this? Will he go after Cody when he is healed up and finished with Drew?
