Biography
For years Chelsea Green was the wrestler fans loved to laugh at. In 2026 she became the one they cheer for. The Canadian holds the WWE Women's Championship on SmackDown, having climbed a ladder to win it at SummerSlam in August, and she is booked to defend it against WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella on the 30 October SmackDown after Bella branded her a bootleg version of herself.
Raised in Victoria, British Columbia, with a spell living in Devon as a child, Green trained under Lance Storm and debuted in 2014. She first reached a WWE audience that year in a brief Raw storyline role and again on Tough Enough in 2015, where she finished fourth among the women. TNA signed her in 2016 and turned her into Laurel Van Ness, a jilted bride whose smeared-mascara breakdowns made her a cult favourite and, in late 2017, Knockouts Champion. She also wrestled for Stardom in Japan and as Reklusa in Lucha Underground before WWE came calling in 2018.
That first WWE run was cruelly stop-start. A promising NXT spell gave way to a SmackDown debut in November 2020 that was cut short by a broken wrist, and she was released in April 2021. Rather than stall, she won the NWA Women's Invitational Cup, returned to Impact and held the Knockouts tag titles with Deonna Purrazzo in 2022. Her WWE return at the 2023 Royal Rumble became famous for the wrong reason, as Rhea Ripley eliminated her in a record five seconds, but Green leaned into the comedy of a woman who demands to speak to the manager. By July she and Sonya Deville were WWE Women's Tag Team Champions, with Piper Niven later stepping in as her partner.
The breakthrough came in December 2024 when she beat Michin at Saturday Night's Main Event to become the first WWE Women's United States Champion. Casting herself as America's self-appointed head of state, she surrounded herself with Niven and Alba Fyre in The Secret Hervice, later renamed The Green Regime, before Zelina Vega ended her 132-day reign in April 2025. A second run with the title followed when she beat Giulia that November, and she also teamed with Ethan Page to win AAA's World Mixed Tag Team Championship.
With Fyre gone and Niven injured, 2026 brought a new direction. Green aligned herself with Tiffany Stratton and turned babyface for the first time since 2022, and she returned from heart surgery in May to win a five-way ladder match at SummerSlam against Stratton, Jade Cargill, Charlotte Flair and Lash Legend for the interim WWE Women's Championship. An eye injury nearly forced her to give it up, but on the 11 September SmackDown WWE recognised her as the full champion and she beat Nia Jax to keep it. Next in line is Nikki Bella.
