Biography
Orange Cassidy is the most unlikely star of AEW's first era: a denim-clad, hands-in-pockets slacker whose apparently lazy act hides a sharp, crowd-pleasing wrestler. A two-time AEW International Champion and a former AEW World Trios Champion, 'Freshly Squeezed' remains one of the company's most beloved babyfaces in autumn 2026 as a cornerstone of The Conglomeration.
James Cipperly debuted in 2004 as JC Ryder on the Pennsylvania and New Jersey independent scene, and from 2006 spent more than a decade under a mask in Chikara as Fire Ant, leader of the insect-themed Colony. The Colony won the King of Trios tournament in 2011 and 2018, and Fire Ant also captured the Young Lions Cup and the Campeonatos de Parejas. Unmasked, he developed the Orange Cassidy character, inspired by a Paul Rudd scene in Wet Hot American Summer, wrestling for Chikara's Gentleman's Club and across the independents.
Cassidy made a cameo on AEW's very first show, Double or Nothing 2019, signed that summer and joined Best Friends with Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta. His slow-motion 'kicks of doom' quickly became a phenomenon, but a star-making performance against Pac at Revolution 2020 and a feud with Chris Jericho, whom he beat in a Mimosa Mayhem match at All Out that year, proved he could go when it mattered. He was named PWI's Most Popular Wrestler and the Wrestling Observer's Best Gimmick for 2020.
After near-misses at the AEW World and TNT titles, he beat Pac for the All-Atlantic Championship in October 2022. Renamed the International Championship in 2023, the belt became the centrepiece of a workhorse open-challenge reign of 326 days, the longest in the title's history, until Jon Moxley beat him at All Out 2023. He won it back from Rey Fénix that October before losing it to Roderick Strong at Revolution 2024.
A bitter split from Trent Beretta followed in 2024, and Cassidy formed The Conglomeration with Mark Briscoe and Kyle O'Reilly, later adding Strong. He challenged Moxley for the AEW World Championship twice late in 2024, missed several months of 2025 with a pectoral injury, then returned to help Darby Allin and the group conquer the Death Riders in a five-star Blood and Guts match that November.
In 2026 Cassidy, Strong and O'Reilly beat The Dogs at Dynasty in April to become AEW World Trios Champions, holding the titles for 108 days before Ricochet's group The Demand took them in July. The Conglomeration's rivalry with the Death Riders and The Dogs rolls on: at WrestleDream on 17 October, Cassidy, O'Reilly and Strong teamed with the Bang Bang Gang but lost a 12-man tag to that alliance.
