Biography
Leon Slater is the reigning TNA World Champion. On 11 October 2026, a fortnight after his 22nd birthday, the Bradford high-flyer beat Nic Nemeth in the main event of Bound for Glory to become the youngest world champion in TNA history. It capped a remarkable rise for a British independent prodigy who has spent barely three years on American television.
Slater debuted in May 2019 at just 14, briefly working as Leon Blade before reverting to his own name. Coached by Liam Slater, he built his reputation on the northern English circuit, picking up titles in NORTH Wrestling and tag gold alongside Man Like DeReiss as Boisterous Behaviour. By 2022 he was appearing for RevPro, Progress and GCW, and 2023 was his breakout year: he won the British J-Cup, impressed on RevPro's biggest shows and, in December, won the Undisputed British Cruiserweight Championship from Connor Mills.
By then TNA, still known as Impact Wrestling at the time, had already signed him to a long-term deal in October 2023. He spent 2024 learning on the job in the X Division, earning a title shot that autumn. The payoff came at Slammiversary in July 2025, when he beat Moose for the X Division Championship and became the youngest man to hold it. Behind a breathtaking Swanton 450, he turned the belt into the show's centrepiece, seeing off Cedric Alexander, Myron Reed, Rich Swann and A.J. Francis. TNA's working relationship with WWE also opened new doors. His Bound for Glory 2025 defence against NXT's Je'Von Evans won wide praise, and he went on to defend the title on NXT and challenge Oba Femi for the NXT Championship at New Year's Evil in January 2026.
His first X Division reign lasted 298 days, matching Austin Aries's record, before Cedric Alexander took the belt in a two-out-of-three falls match in May 2026. Slater got it back inside a steel cage at Lockdown in August and immediately invoked Option C, giving up the title in exchange for a shot at the TNA World Championship. That gamble paid off at Bound for Glory, where he outlasted Nemeth and put him away with the Swanton for the biggest win of his career.
Heading into the last weeks of 2026, Slater is TNA's young flagbearer, and one of the most talked-about British exports in wrestling.
