Andre the Giant was professional wrestling's first truly global special attraction, a performer whose extraordinary size made him famous far beyond the sport. He travelled across territories around the world before becoming a centrepiece of WWE's national expansion. His WrestleMania III confrontation with Hulk Hogan remains one of wrestling's defining images and helped establish the scale of the event.
