Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker (w/ Paul Heyman)

(ESPN2 — Opening Hour) Bron Breakker def. Seth Rollins

Bron Breakker Defeats Seth Rollins At WWE Backlash 2026 - WrestleTalk

Rollins set a blistering pace from the opening bell, immediately hitting Breakker with two suicide dives. Breakker’s power eventually shut that down, and he took control with bruising suplexes and relentless offence.

Rollins bit Breakker’s face out of desperation while on the top rope, but Breakker hit a Frankensteiner anyway. The action spilled to the floor, with Breakker hitting a flying clothesline off the apron. Back inside, Breakker hit a standing moonsault for a near fall, then Rollins answered with a buckle bomb — only for Breakker to come straight back with a clothesline.

Rollins hit a superplex and followed with a Pedigree and a curb stomp, but Heyman jumped on the apron to distract the referee. Austin Theory and Logan Paul hit the ring to intervene, but Rollins fought them off with a steel chair and hit Theory with a curb stomp.

Rollins sprinted back to the ring, only to be met with a Breakker spear. Rollins somehow kicked out. A second spear attempt was countered into a Pedigree, but Breakker responded with a Torpedo Spear to finally put Rollins away.

A phenomenal way to open the show. Rollins did what he always does — made his opponent look like a million dollars in defeat — and Breakker looked every inch a future world champion. The Vision interference kept Rollins credible while Breakker got the clean finish he needed.

WWE United States Championship

Trick Williams (c) (w/ Lil Yachty) def. Sami Zayn (Williams retains)

Nick Aldis Adds WWE US Title Defense, Danhausen Match To Backlash 2026 Card

Williams used his size to control the early stages, with the Tampa crowd serenading him with “Whoop That Trick” chants throughout. Zayn’s frustration boiled over and he became increasingly erratic, at one point picking up the steel steps and threatening the champion with them. Zayn continued his heel antics, attacking Lil Yachty at ringside. In the end, Williams landed the Trick Shot for the pinfall to retain his title.

A better match than their WrestleMania outing with more time to breathe and a crowd that was vocally hostile to Zayn throughout, which added considerably to the atmosphere. Williams’ first successful title defence on the main roster. The “Gingerbread Man” angle has run its course — time to find Zayn a fresh direction.

Danhausen & Minihausen def. The Miz & Kit Wilson

WWE Backlash 2026: 3 Things We Hated & 3 Things We Loved

The mystery partner was revealed to be “Mini Danhausen,” unveiled via a cloning machine. Chaos broke out when Wilson sent Minihausen back into the machine — and multiple Minihauses came spilling out. Danhausen continues his undefeated streak in WWE, both in the ring and as the most entertaining act on the roster.

Exactly the kind of pro-wrestling absurdity that either lands completely or doesn’t. By all accounts, it landed. Miz and Wilson were excellent sports and played their roles to perfection. A palate cleanser that gave the crowd a breather before the two biggest matches of the night.

Iyo Sky def. Asuka via pinfall

Fightful | WWE News, AEW News, Pro Wrestling Backstage News

Sky was first to gain meaningful offence, hitting a sliding trip, a basement dropkick, and a headstand Meteora. Asuka shifted momentum by stopping Sky’s Asai Moonsault attempt and sending her crashing into the ring post, taking over with stiff, nasty offence throughout a prolonged heat segment.

Sky mounted a comeback with uppercuts, a missile dropkick, and the Bullet Train, but Asuka answered with strikes and grappling sequences — including a bridging German suplex transition into an armbar and then a full Asuka Lock.

Sky escaped and briefly trapped Asuka in her own Asuka Lock in return. The match spilled to the commentary table, where Asuka spat her poison mist — but Sky snatched Wade Barrett’s notebook and used it as a shield. Sky smashed Asuka face-first into the table and hit a crossbody off it. Back in the ring, Iyo finally connected with the Bullet Train and followed with the Over the Moonsault to secure the pinfall victory.

Post-match, Asuka broke down in tears and embraced Sky in a rare and genuine emotional moment, further fuelling speculation about a possible retirement.

The match of the night without question. It felt like a true passing-of-the-torch between mentor and pupil. “We Want Kairi” chants from the crowd couldn’t dampen what was a masterclass from both women. If this is Asuka’s goodbye, it was the right way to go out.

Segment: John Cena Announcement

Cena came out in a blue-and-white pinstripe suit and reflected on his retirement, praising Sol Ruca, Je’Von Evans, and Oba Femi as the future of WWE. Cena announced “The John Cena Classic” — a brand-new event pitting WWE main roster stars against NXT talent, with a new championship created specifically for it. Uniquely, fans will vote to determine who is crowned champion.

An intriguing concept with obvious risks. Fan voting in 2026 is a gamble given how vocal and unpredictable audiences can be online, but Cena’s involvement gives it instant credibility. One to watch.

World Heavyweight Championship

Roman Reigns (c) def. Jacob Fatu (Reigns retains)

Fatu tried to end things immediately with a Tongan Death Grip in the opening moments of the match, and Reigns was immediately on the back foot. Fatu put Reigns through the announcer’s table and hit a Pop-Up Samoan Drop followed by a Mighty Moonsault that nearly cost Reigns the title.

Reigns, having virtually no answers for his cousin, was forced to resort to underhanded tactics to steal the win — using the turnbuckle to secure the decisive pinfall. After the bell, a furious Fatu attacked Reigns with the Tongan Death Grip for an extended period and obliterated the referee with a Pop-Up Samoan Drop, forcing multiple WWE officials to intervene.

Fatu finally relented and stood over the fallen champion, holding the World Heavyweight title aloft. A seriously injured Reigns was subsequently interviewed, stating that Fatu doesn’t belong here and that tonight was his last night in WWE.

WWE Backlash 2026 | WWE

Fatu comes out of Backlash looking stronger than he did going in, and Reigns — despite being champion — now feels like the underdog and is as hunted as ever. A brilliant bit of booking. Reigns cheating to win and Fatu’s post-match destruction sets the stage perfectly for a rematch that feels absolutely necessary.

Overall Show Rating:

Outside of WrestleMania 42’s Night 2, WWE Backlash 2026 has a legitimate claim as the best PLE of the year so far. Every match served a purpose. Rollins/Breakker and Reigns/Fatu delivered exactly what was asked of them, and Iyo/Asuka surpassed all expectations to produce something genuinely special. A very easy watch from top to bottom.
